Mushroom Whisperers

Rhinos are fond of Mushrooms, but let’s face it: Mushrooms have their little ways.

Regarding poisonosity, Rhinos have a little-known gift; We can hear when a plant is not meant for Us. An unusual talent, to say the least. Just a “pssssst” from the Fungus, and We move along.

Yet another example of how Nature looks out for Us in the Wild, for which We are plenty grateful.

Light on our feet…

Each and every Rhino has our own Rhythm Section, ready to go and then some. It probably is no surprise that We are adept at the old Soft Shoe, shushing our way from here to there, to the delight of all passersby. Shush-a-de-Shush-Shush-Shush, and like that. We are smooth.

It is our upbeat approach to things that makes Rhinos such a favorite in the Wild. We come by it Naturally.

Tormented

Today is August Strindberg’s birthday (b.1849 in Sweden). He was prolific as an essayist, painter, philosopher, and playwright. His dramas are charged with passion, distrust, and hostility, one character for another. Some of his work is naturalistic, other pieces more abstract, poetic, symbolic. However you look at it, his work is distinctive, peppered with paranoid intensity. Victims and victimizers, circling one another, playing for keeps.

Mr. Strindberg’s plays reflect his excitable nature. His work has plenty of juice between the lines, no doubt about it.

Rhinos don’t relate Mr. Strindberg’s way, if We can avoid it. We manage this by minding our own business and staying clear of Expectations or Romantic Notions. We give each other room.

Questions, Questions

Young Rhinos are often curious about where babies come from. Straightforward explanations do not do much good; kids find the facts too improbable. Often adults do too.

RhinoMoms have a supply of Alternative Explanations which seem to answer the need, at least for a year or so. So that’s a mercy anyway.

It also keeps the curious Young busy, checking out the Local Botanical Scene (LBS) for ‘Developments’.

Weather Reportage

We Rhinos live where it does not Snow, virtually ever. However, We do like to hear about it, and imagine it. We see ourselves involved in its many mysteries and conjurations. A good time, and economical, as good times go.

Of course, our ancestors, Wooly Rhinos & Friends, used to tromp around in snow and frost, etc., but things were much cooler Long Ago. Don’t ask why. We don’t know.

Rhino Blizzard Prep is all speculative, at least in the Wild, but trust Us: if and when that first flake lands, Rhinos will be all over it!

One Method, or another…

Today ‘Your Inner Rhino’ salutes Konstantin Stanislavski, b. 1863. He developed a style for the theatre , attempting a more naturalistic approach, especially to character. His influence dominates most acting today, both in stage and film work.

Stanislavski directed and acted with Russian authors, like Anton Chekhov and Maxim Gorky. He was also a founder of the Moscow Art Theatre.

Rhinos like acting, though it took Us quite a while to figure out what it is. We are not very good at pretense, among ourselves, or anywhere else, for that matter. Still, We are enthusiastic voyeurs.

FlapJacked

Rhinos are as susceptible as anybody when it comes to the turmoil of Changing Plans unexpectedly.

We were set to execute Plan A, and find that Plan Z has taken over, is under way, with or without our Best Wishes.

There is probably a stirring metaphor about the Tides, but We can’t think what it might be.
