Most Rhino minds tend to be overactive, collecting impressions, facts, nonsense, data, calculations, connections, etc … a heady mass of Thoughts.

It should be no wonder then to learn that when taking a snooze, most every Rhino takes a moment to Shoo extraneous stuff from our minds.

The lack of Contaminated Thinking is what contributes to our usual Jolly Demeanor.

Gone but not Forgotten

RhinoTots are raised by their Moms. Their Dads do their duty, then wander off on other business. But the Idea of a Dad is still potent in the RhinoTot’s imagination.

It should be no surprise that these invisible Dads often take on heroic or fabulous aspects, a consequential back-up in the RhinoTot psyche.

In the Wild, any support We can each assemble is considered a Good Thing.

Timely Topix

In 1884 somebody decided that the Prime Meridian runs through Greenwich, England, near London. You can’t see it, smell it, or hear it, but there it is, just the same.

From there, all the Longitudes are determined somehow, and then everybody knows something or other. It has to do with keeping track of Time.

Wherever We go (or you go), the time is different than in Greenwich, but that’s helpful, Rhinos are told. Of course, We are still trying to figure out the Meridian question, so We are already running behind.

IQ Issues

Few young Rhinos are born brilliant. There is a great deal of information bombarding them from minute #1, and it’s easy to get muddled, connecting the dots… or trying to connect the dots.

What is for sure is that Wisdom is a state that follows Ignorance, given enough time and some focused brain-power.

Not every Rhino is equal to the task. That is just how it is.

Looking Backward

It would be interesting if Rhinos, or anybody else, could look at the Past without the filters of the Present. As far as Rhinos can see, it can’t be done. Data may enhance a look back, but it will never provide more than suppositions, how We would react today, given the past circumstances.

Knowing things is tricky, even for Us. Rhinos have more than enough Attitude to offer, but it is detrimental to Perception. A generous or sour Attitude, it still distorts matters.

There is a deep Gulf of Understanding between Now and Then.

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

We get lots of inquiries about our diminishing numbers. Rhinos are confronting rough times, but We have little power to stem the tide.

There are many species coping with thinning ranks. At some point, there are insufficient members to breed a healthy population, and then the candle goes out, whatever the species. Pfffft.

Some of these problems are Natural, though most of them are not. Rhinos do not snivel; We persevere, sharing good cheer as best We can.

Shoulder Power

Rhinos have a complete body language vocabulary, most meaningful when used with other Rhinos, who are attuned to the gestures.

The Shrug is a good beginner’s gesture, meaning Ignorance (who knows?) or Indifference (who cares?). A Starter’s Set, involving a blank expression and shoulder lifts. With time, it can be enhanced or nuanced to mean just about anything.

Thus Rhinos can be critters of few words, but maintain our reputation for Eloquence.

Adjustments

All Rhinos know that it does not pay to fret over getting lost. In fact, We seldom think of being lost, since We would have had to have an idea of where else We should be.

Our basic stance is that We are fine where We are. If We aren’t fine where We are, We probably know it. So that creates a situation where We are moving “away from”, rather than “moving toward”.

Our Rhino Intention is avoidance. It sounds easier than it seems in fact.
