Loners

5-29 We-ness!

None of Us is ever alone. We might look like We are alone, but no.

We have our immediate family, the other Rhinos in the area, each doing whatever seems needful at the time.

We have all the other R family members, all over the place, all backing Us up, cheering Us on. Enjoying Us.

And We have all the Rhinos that have gone before Us, 55 millions years worth, all rejoicing in Us today.

Each of Us is a Crowd. All Partying. Inside.

Glimpsing

5-29 PkaBoo

Peek-a-Boo is definitely a Rhino invention, whatever you may have heard to the contrary. Ancient skills are involved in Peek-a-Boo, enriching Rhino Life from the cradle to the grave.

One of the aspects skillfully rendered here is the issue of Peripheral Vision, the ability to look more ways than one. Peripheral vision is  where most of our most Brilliant Insights present themselves, fleetingly Peeking Out to pique our interest. Teasing and enticing, those Brilliant Ideas. Peek-a-Boo!

If We were not trained up to pay attention, to grasp these esoteric what-have-yous, We would probably not be the species We are today. Receptive: That’s Us.

Muchas Grassias

5-28MuchasGrassias

A hundred pounds of veggies, plus, is what each day involves. That’s a lot of veggies, but grass is not full of nutrition and that is a fact. So We need to keep grinding away if We want to keep shipshape. We are eating about half the time. Big critters, big appetites.

Fortunately, We can multitask, eating and pondering Life’s Mysteries and bonding with the Energies of the Wild, all at once.

We are not persnickety about the range of stuffs We munch; We just keep chewing.

Here & There

5-26 Here v there

Where We are is always ‘Here’, always sensational, RhinoCentric.

‘There’ is the everywhere else where We aren’t at the moment. Our relation to “There” is primarily theoretical. Or conjectural. It’s probably there all right, but our direct involvement is obviously limited.

Here is good. Yes, Here works.

o'er the Falls

From time to time one of Us decides to take the road less traveled. What impels unconventional choices is hard to pin down, and often an interview afterwards is hard to arrange. We can only suppose it seemed necessary at the time, and the individual seized the moment.

Our point is: since We do not know the details, We are in no position to analyze the resulting decisions. We might summon Common Sense to arbitrate advisability, but much of history (particularly Rhino History) is made memorable by Uncommon Sense. Why indulge in fruitless speculation?

Who knows when any one of Us will hear the siren call of the Unexpected?

Poking around up there…

5-23 Re-Minders

Inside of Us We keep the records of what We have been up to, each of Us, all through our lives. Does it really feel as organized as this? No. It probably looks more like all the notes in the files and crates, tossed helter-skelter into a wind tunnel. Many bits, all adding up to Us. What version We get depends on which paper gets plucked from the twister at any particular moment.

Some of the broad topics our individual records cover are Lessons, Precepts and Concepts, Notions, Mistakes, Memories- both sweet and sour, Ideas, Thoughts, Ideals, Plans and Projects, Aspirations, Assumptions, Impressions, Doubts, Concerns, Intentions, Confusions, and Contradictions.

The trunk is for Regrets. We have them too.

Missing Marbles

5-23MarbleHunt

It is not easy to tell if you have lost your marbles. We are never sure how many We get in the first place, and couldn’t count them up anyway. We are not sure where they are stored most of the time, or how they achieve whatever it is they achieve. Do they escape or fall out of our ears when we sleep? Lost marbles involve some mysterious riddle.

In a precautionary measure, We keep an eye peeled in general for marbles. That way We hope to acquire enough to cover any deficit We may realize over time. Oftentimes We leave them even if We find them; how could We be sure it is our marble, and not somebody else’s?

Marbles are a lot trickier than they seem, one way and another.
