Which comes first?

Today YIR addresses the age-old question, is there a proper Time and Place for Everything? We Rhinos cannot say, that much is for certain. But We do wonder occasionally, if it’s so.

And if it is, which part is more important? the Timing or the Location? Or possibly the Propriety?

It would help matters if these age-old questions included more specifics one way and another. But We Rhinos do not complain; We just ponder.

First time for everything…

Today being Father’s Day, YIR has chosen a different sort of Dad to salute, namely, Herodotus, “The Father of History”.

Herodotus was Greek, born in Persia. Prior to his book, ‘The Histories’ (425 BC), nobody had recorded events hoping to explain why things happened as they did. He traveled widely, and dealt with all sorts of sources, looking for a balanced picture of leaders, peoples, and events. Ingenious.

All history is only as good as your sources, and Herodotus apparently found some comics, among his ‘experts’. We Rhinos notice that nothing much has changed.

Nor Starfishes neither…

You know Money doesn’t grow on Trees,” say those who know about Money. Or they might say the same thing about Cessna 172S Skyhawks, or Burritos, or Gumdrops. Or about Worthy Companions or Inspiring Leaders.

Rhinos do not know Everything, but We do know a lot about Trees. What We want to reassure our Readers about is: If it’s a leaf, a needle, a frond, a flower, a fruit, a nut, a pod, plus stuff We forgot to mention, then it likely grew on a tree of some sort. And some critters live “in” trees, but are not part of the tree itself.

But Alfa Romeos? Sorry, but no. Or Seldom.

Straight Talk

Most Rhino conflicts are settled by size and determination; whoever is biggest and baddest wins. Nothing about it is too romantic.

In Football, there is a term “Unnecessary Roughness”, which applies to more than enough rough stuff. We assume it is contrasted to usual violence, perhaps “Necessary Roughness”? Peaceful discussion is not part of the ritual, either way.

With Rhinos, issues are decided with Roughness, whatever flavor is needed. In the Wild, it is called Survival of the Species.
