Hickory Dickory

The ticking of a watch may be comforting to you, but its regularity sometimes gets on our nerves. We prefer the natural idea of the sundial. We are not interested in the hour anyway, and the sundial is relating to the sun, so We like that. We are mostly on duty to one degree or another 24/7, even when asleep. No great reason to be particular about one hour or another.

Sundial 11-6

For Us, the issue is simple; is the sun up yet or not? Day or night dictate which playmates will be active in the Wild. Many critters only get going at night or by day. Not We. We are ready to chew and make profound discoveries, around the clock… as it were.

For those of you who are wondering, our model here is a Sumatran Rhino, which explains the hairiness. There is a long tradition of hairiness among Us Rhinos, though only one family is embodying that distinction at present. Who knows what’s on its way? Next year We may all be awash in fuzz, striped or spotted. Nature has a unique sense of humor; why fight it?

One, Two, More, Much, Whenever, Then and like that…

We are not really into counting. We go for the Spirit of the Thing or Things. This disinterest on our part makes it hard to tell you how many years or pounds or families or distance, well, lots of things. The appeal of specifics escapes Us.

CountingHumans seem fascinated with particulars, and make many lists which you put in prominent places. Looking at a list often does not clarify anything for Us, but We cheerfully pass on the data to you; why not?- it’s your data. Many numbers: seventy, eleven. Enjoy.

The Rhino shelves of your home library should help here. You just look Us up when you want “facts”. That is how books work, We are told. Our system of records is based on scent, so books don’t figure much in the Big Scheme of Things. Sniffing Concepts is our approach to most everything.

You and We don’t have to share methods, just Good Will.

R Potentialities and the Quest

Each of Us has a floating range of possibilities during our time on Earth. But in adolescence, as We prepare for independence, one Choice seems to weld itself to the individual Rhino’s Willpower, seeking and demanding expression and investigation. Exactly how and why this happens, nobody knows. But between other mundane assignments each of Us concentrates Awareness on that individual focus. No two Quests are alike, no framework is defined for the Quest. It simply calls out for attention, and the call is answered gladly. What one Rhino finds stimulating mirrors what every other Rhino experiences, in some cosmic interconnection.

Possibilities fl 11-2

What makes the entire solo investigation so fulfilling is the certain knowledge that the fruit of the project enhances All Rhinos. Each of Us is made more complete by the efforts of every other member of the Rhino Community.

And the answer to your next question is: Yes, enhancements last through Time. Each of Us is enriched by each relative, living or past. Daunting, right? The concept of the Quest is mysteriously linked to RhinoHeart. Which of Us would not be eager to pitch in?

Trick’r’Treat!

Holiday a la mode, Halloween.

Boo-tiful2014 10-30

We love the idea of dressing up. We have no clothing really, but much time is spent speculating over stylish possibilities. When you own nothing, it’s oh-so easy to make a selection- or three or five. Imagination is the Best Shoppe any day, plus We get a frantic range of accessories! Change the color, the character, whatever. Why not?

Also, We have no problems finding parking when shopping.

BTW, here at Your Inner Rhino We decided to celebrate human holidays with you. Rhino holidays are so numerous, and their meanings are so difficult to convey… well, it’s just easier to undertake yours. We Rhinos generally have about 73 holidays for every calendar day. Lots to celebrate! A gazillion years worth of Exhilaration.

Every little breeze…

Sound in the WildIn the Wild there is a non-stop symphony of sound. The orchestration shifts with the hour, the season, the weather, plus the resident population. There are infinite sources for sound, noise, music, etc., all of them engaging our attention.

We mention this because We Rhinos have extraordinary hearing, as nifty as our sense of scent. Amazing.

Here sits the happy Rhino, chewing and listening (and sniffing). What grabs her attention?, you ask. Answer: Silence. Silence is Nature’s five-star Alarm.

What will she do? She will figure out what caused the Silence. One thing to recall is that she is probably upwind of the problem, or she would have smelled the problem longsince.

Will she run away, as most sensible creatures would, or does she investigate to reestablish local serenity? Who can tell? The girl has options…

Dashing all the way…

R Racer 10-27-14
We just mentioned that We are pretty quick. We were not fooling. We can run at 35 mph, which is about the same as the standard horse. (We are cousins, after all.) Pretty good, considering our bulk. Quick-ity Quick.

Also, We can turn on a dime, though there is little spare change in the Wild for Us to practice with.

Generally, We do not run around much. Takes too much energy, and energy means more chewing and chewing and chewing.
