Get your coat, and get your hat…

Now or Then, a Rhino simply knows it’s time to wrap it up, and move out. That Rhino responds to the Call of Nature, wherever events lead. Hesitation does not come into play.

In most cases, the issue is not where that Rhino is Going, but where that Rhino is Leaving. One thing is for sure: shortly that Rhino will be somewhere else.

Today YIR salutes Mr. Lyonel Feininger, born 1871. He was both a German-American Impressionist painter and a cartoonist. We like his work.

Rhino in Gold

Herr Gustav Klimpt was a Viennese artist, born in 1862. His works are Splendid, if one wants to understate his Achievements and Individuality.

Also, since it is July 14, We wanted to salute the French, for whom this is a momentous occasion. Via the ‘Archive’ section, see July 15 (don’t ask), 2017, for a refresher.

Stuff Starts Somewhere

Wild Strawberries grow all around the World. However, on July 3, 1806 Mr. Michael Keens, a British market gardener, introduced Strawberries he cultivated himself to the Horticultural Society of London. Today, almost all market Strawberries are related to his ‘Keens Seedling’ variety of the fruit.

Mr. Keens also discovered that Strawberries have male and female plants. Strawberries won’t grow if you don’t have both on hand. Who would have guessed?

So as We Rhinos gobble our Strawberry Shortcakes, We salute Mr. Keens’ endeavors; Credit where it is due.

Wingding-ing

Today is Canada’s National Day, celebrating itself. It Officially got itself together 151 years ago, in 1867.

Since then, it has been a non-stop Jamboree of genteel Gamboling, Frolicking, and some tasteful Roistering. Parades and Merry Larks are the Canadian norm, as far as any Rhino can tell. On July 1, they just crank up the volume.

Rhinos are Revelry Specialists, so We have occasionally been asked in as consultants.

Make It Snappy

Tomorrow, Sunday, the 1st of July, is Ginger Snap Day. The first recorded recipe for ‘Lebkuchen’ (G.Snaps to Us) comes from Franconia, Germany from 1296, devised by Medieval Monks. Similar treats were probably known well before that, as far back as the Egyptians.

The point here is, Time’s a-Wasting if you want enough Ginger Snaps to make tomorrow a memorable festivity. One Snap is never enough, likewise a dozen.

A word to the Wise is sufficient, an olde Rhino slogan if there ever was one.
