Never too late…

9-7-gmamoses

Grandma Moses (born 9/7, 1860) didn’t start painting until she was 78 years old. Her career wasn’t short though; she lived to be 101. Lots of famous output.

Rhinos seldom get sidetracked along the way. That is because We chew a lot, so We can ponder creative outlets all the time, at the same time.

Rhinos don’t usually live to age 101, We think, so We cram a lot into the time We do get.

Rule Britannia

9-7qbess

Queen Elizabeth I was born in 1533. She was popular, but prickly. She liked things her way, without sass of any kind. A Queen clearly in touch with her Inner Rhino.

We Rhinos are wired pretty much the same way, right?

Bess (as she was called by her best pals) also liked to gad about in plenty of finery. Rhinos do that too, albeit on a theoretical level.

Labor Day

9-5 Labor

Rhinos do not hold jobs or labor in the sense that many of our Readers do. We are not idle; We have to attend to our daily affairs without any voluntary holidays ever. Eating, drinking, sleeping, etc. For Us these require presence of mind and nimble responses and unquestioning dedication.

Don’t underestimate the lilies of the field. We are a busy bunch.

Dramatic Attrition

8-13Hamlet

By the time Hamlet is over, almost everyone is dead. One by one, the whole cast is done in. Horatio, Hamlet’s pal, is left to assess the damages and wonder how he escaped Mr. Shakespeare’s lethal attentions. We suppose someone had to be left to explain how matters got out of hand.

Rhinos find this aspect of Tragedy interesting. Our worldwide numbers are thinning, so We pay special attention.

Fortunately for Us, Rhinos are stout-hearted critters; We march onward while the marching is good.

From the Get-Go

9-3 BluPrnt

Each and every one of Us comes with a blueprint. We will never see it, and nobody knows where they are kept. But without some sort of scheme, how would We arrive as Rhinos? And not just a member of the RFamily, but this particular critter, Unique and Exceptional!

DNA is the popular answer, but We have our reservations about those DNAs. Given the twists Rhinos each experience, how can those little letters keep up? Skepticism is not always pretty, but sometimes its time has come.

Even with the blueprint, Experience shapes who and what We are. But that beginning business… Remarkable!

Up in smoke…

9-2 1666Fire

Back in 1666, London, England, had a Great Fire. (Great in the sense of huge.) Many folk lost all they had, house and all. The fire was started with a “Whoops” at a bakery in Pudding Lane, which sounds improbable, but is the fact.

Rhinos generally avoid places where fires might break out. In the Wild, fires are disastrous, so We are vigilant. Who knows when a “Whoops” might happen? Natural or Unnatural.

Still disastrous.

Ophidiophobia

9-1 Snakebitten

Once snakebitten, It only makes sense to keep an eye out for other members of the offending clan.

One hazard of that is that you can be scared frantic by a rope- or a shoelace. Doesn’t seem quite fair, but there you have it.

Rhinos do not write the rules in these matters.

Pulling yourself together…

8-30 MShelley

Mary Shelley (b. 1797) wrote Frankenstein, about a doctor with Big Ideas. In the story there is Tension between the creator and the creation. Rhinos know all about it. What new recipe ever came out exactly as you wanted it? Or a relationship?

At YIR, We thought We would suggest that now is a good time to check your oil and kick your own tires, just to see that you are shipshape.

Why wait? Who wants to call the tow truck later?
