His own vision

12-15-hundertw778

Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser (b.1928) was an Austrian artist and architect with his own idiosyncratic recipe. He never met a straight line he liked.  A wonderful appreciation of color and saturation, and a childlike delight in spontaneity. AND an early supporter of environmental protection.

What Rhino could resist a guy like that? Why would We try?

I’ll be seeing you…

12-14nostradamus777

Nostadamus, born 1503, is known for reading the future. Exactly how he managed it is muddled, and has been ever since he wrote The Prophecies. It was in French, which shows how clever he was.

Rhinos cannot foresee things particularly, but We are good at spotting trends. A few hints and We can tell the future pretty nicely. We can do the math of probabilities.

As shown, 1+1 is easy. When it’s 2+2 time (higher math) We get exhausted and have a wee nap. Then off to other business.

Jamhuri Day

12-12kenya775

Today is the day when Kenya achieved autonomy from Great Britain in 1963. Shown is a Kikuyu Bantu festival outfit, one major tribe among many in Kenya.

Kenya has always been Kenya no matter what it was called and who was “in charge”. Humans have been there only 2 million years, while Rhinos have been there about 10. Today, Rhinos both Black and White still live there in the huge conservation parks. Sharing.

Happy Republic Day to one and all.

on reflection…

Sir David Brewster was born today in 1781 in Scotland. He was very clever and made strides in the Sciences. Sciences use numbers to establish something, so Rhinos are mostly out of that loop. We applaud, but have minimal concrete input.

Yes. What Sir David did (that We can embrace) was to invent the Kaleidoscope. You look in the little hole, and there are patterns that change if you shake it or twist it or point it somewhere else.

Obviously Sir David was a fellow who provided many Happy Birthdays over the years. We say Happy Birthday back, and thank you.

Ingestmentation

12-9chomping772

Many critters just eat, or so it appears to Us.

We Rhinos, on the other hand, have made an Art Form of Dining, a gustatory approach and technique of chewing, salivating, grinding and ingestion that would be the envy of any connoisseur, whatever the area of discerning application.

We honor our meals with our undivided attentions, unless We have things on our minds, which does happen. Then We have to split the difference.

Derangement

12-8-chaos771

On the rare occasion when one of Us decides to tidy up, We gasp at how dreadful everything looks in the process. We start the project because things are out of hand, but as We plug on, things seem worse and worse until the final five minutes.

And then, Voila! Rhino Order.

Possibly it wouldn’t be such a mess if We acted sooner in the first place. We’ll probably never know.

Finnish Lines

12-6finlandhb768

And here We are, celebrating Finland’s Independence Day, all day. Also, Flag Day. Rhinos everywhere salute Finns everywhere.

Finland separated from Russia in 1917, so this is their 99th Birthday. (Obviously, somebody told Us that, given our R counting issues.)

After some debate, YIR decided a joulutorttu was more fun as a birthday cake, as opposed to a muf-Finn. Heh, heh.
