Toastiness

That statesman of the United States, Mr. Benjamin Franklin, b. 1706, was a man of many talents.

Today Rhinos acknowledge his inventing the Franklin Stove in 1742. Its unique feature was that although the heat of a fireplace goes up the chimney, the new stove radiated heat from the middle of the room. A welcome development where it gets chilly.

Rhinos live where heat is already abundant. Most days, We are more in the market for a friendly Glacier.

Sitting Pretty?

Rhinos are attentive to our own Critter Comforts. We like the idea of living off the Fat of the Land. Maybe getting a manicure. Having an artichoke.

However, life in the Wild doesn’t give Us much opportunity for these conjectures. Nature is perpetually changing the situation and the rules. Rhinos must pay attention.

Annoyingly, it has been the Rhino Experience that the longer We ignore our Discomfort Zone, the more our Comfort Zone shrinks. It’s probably some sort of Natural Phenomena.

Tremors

Today is the birthday of Mr. Charles F. Richter (1900) who, with Mr. Beno Gutenberg, invented and developed Seismology and a scale for gauging Earthquakes during the 1930s.

A grand effort and much to be grateful for! They studied California, where there is a lot of Earthquaking. Later on, they expanded their work, sharing with scientists around the world.

We Rhinos think the Earth can use all the study it can get. With Nature, the point is about getting out of the way… in time, when possible.
