Knock Knock
Of Human Ideas, making an “Indoors” was a real Rip-Snorter! Nothing had prepared Us for it! We knew of caves and hives and nests and burrows, but actually constructing things with an inside and an outside, all at once- marvelous. It took Us quite a while to summon the courage to try out a doorway, and many of Us are still not comfortable sampling alternative spatial concepts. Just don’t seem quite Natural for Us, being Outside Critters, for sure. Still, it is an important idea, however disorienting it may be. Inside, Outside, Inside, Outside. What’ll they think of next?
Sideways Style
So here We are, back about 20-30 million years ago. What is distinctive here is how Nature arranged our horns, side by side. Only the Diceratherium family had the same arrangement, at roughly the same time. Diceratherium were larger, and lived in North America, while the Menoceras family started out in Europe and later shifted to North America.
When We say Diceratherium were larger, you should understand that Menoceras was only as big as a healthy sheep today. We were lightly built, all things considered, and were great Runners. That was jolly, as We lived in herds and liked to trot hither and thither. Nothing like a Good Trot to work up an appetite.
Of some interest is that these horns were only worn by the males of the family; Nature is a prankster, and that’s a fact. Nobody’s safe.
Skill Sets
As any youngster with a Mother knows, Eye Rolling is an essential talent. We Rhinos are no different. Entirely useful during parental discussions.
High Jinx on the loose…
No point in trying to cover up our tendencies, among which is an irrepressible delight in clowning around. We are Nature’s Riot Squad. That ‘Barrel-of-Monkies’ gag holds no candle to our innate capacity for Slap-Happiness.
Fortunately, We find ourselves Hilarious. Not everybody is as easily amused, grumpy old things. Whatcha gonna do?
From the Heart
By way of saying how grateful We are to all our Fine Readers who have taken the time to embrace Your Inner Rhino. We have been blogging for a smidge over 5 weeks, and things are going well. We just want you to be aware that your attentions are greatly appreciated.

Rhinos Aloft
It might be great if We could fly, but flight involves natural equipment We don’t have. Fortunately birds are chatty on what they see and what fun it is. We take their word for it, and enjoy it by proxy, so to speak. What We lack in the wing department, We make up for with Rhino Imaginations. Flights of Fancy.
The Path to Individuality
When We reach adolescence, We leave Mom and head out on our own. Most of Us go alone, embarking on The Quest. Quests are lifelong, and each of Us has an individual route to experiencing and expressing her or his Inner Rhino. Quests are not rigid; sometimes the original idea adjusts to incorporate unforeseen contingencies.
Each of Us reponds to RhinoHeart, which no Rhino would think to question. Our Quest is not a Duty but an Exhilarating Adventure.
Though physically alone, We are companioned by Guides, a set of spiritual qualities and kinds of awareness. Though they have no bodies, We think of Guides as having specific characteristics. Guides support our Goals, our Vision, of what We can contribute to Rhinodom.
Here you see a picture of Patience, a Guide whose counsel is not universally heeded. No Guide coerces, but offers opportunities and encouragement. Then forgiveness and perspective when We botch things up.
Javan Quandary
The numbers of Us Javan Rhinos are so few that We have trouble locating one another in the Wild. Our Wild is pretty jungly and convoluted. Determination is what is required under the circumstances, but that We have, a-plenty.
Meet Us tonight in Dream Land
There is some territory between Dreaming and Imagination, though the borders are none too clear. We can go there (wherever that is) whenever We like. It’s a place where We can communicate with one another, though it doesn’t work like a telephone. It has more to do with Intuition, but it seems to be foolproof. And has worked for a Really Long Time. It isn’t a predictable business; We just flip that mental switch and Whoever tunes in, gets our attention. Somehow the right Rhino always gets the Right message; pretty Swell System.
Your Inner Rhino
