Hickory Dickory

It’s pretty amazing how Nature programs Us Rhinos, not just for Today, but over our Lifetimes. All sorts of timing devices to inform Us and transform Us. Hour by hour, year by year. So many systems, all inside each given Rhino. Lots more than three, We can tell you.

Boggles the mind, really. Or it would if all these Tickers had anything to do with our Conscious Minds, which they don’t. They just regulate Us and get on with their business. In there flipping switches, usually at the Very Best Moment.

We are impressed, believe Us. Nature; it’s hard to beat!

From here to there

Growing up is a unique process. Each Rhino must follow an individual path forward. Each of Us sees that path our own way. No map, just a journey.

What is interesting about this process is how clearly We see the beginning, and how We know so little of where that path will take Us. Where things will lead, and what will occur along the way. All of that is masked from Us.

In some ways, this is true of any given day; We step forward, but cannot assess what is ahead.

Just deserts

Since Rhinos don’t own stuff, the only rewards We can offer another critter, Rhino or not, are Consideration and Encouragement.

“They got their just deserts” usually means some appropriate punishment, though sometimes it means reward. So, We assume We need to Earn decent treatment? Our goal is to gratify somebody else? Not Rhino, No thank you, neither today or tomorrow. No. As in, No. Like Never, or even more seldom.

Rhinos prefer to dole out Kindness and Respect as the normal social transaction, day to day, Everyone to Every Other One. Everybody wins.

Ground rules

Rhinos, like most critters, pass our days Expecting things to be a certain way, to organize themselves consistently. If it’s this way today, it was mostly just like that yesterday, allowing wiggle room for interpretation.

But We Rhinos are keenly aware that this Expectation runs the Hazard of Disappointment. It’s what makes things interesting.

Was that way, but today, hmmm, not so much. Time to regroup.
