Nature's Pharmacy

We are seldom ill, but We do waver, now and again. No pharmacies in the Wild, so our communication skills with plants are essential. We stagger forth, searching for just the right thing, and with time and luck, a plant will volunteer to help Us out.

And now you know most of what you need to about medicine as it is practiced where We live.

Where you live, matters seem more ornate. But what do We know?

Gee-ology

4-23 G-ology

Nature is always on the go, and often, so are the parts of the world. You hear a rumble, and wherever you were has decided to take off on an adventure. Sometimes the trip is short, sometimes lengthy. No telling.

As illustrated, sometimes one part of the RFamily is split up, just like the landscape. Everybody just has to make the best of things. Whereas the whole family had a developed “look” when the rift occurred, it doesn’t mean that things will stay that way. In less than no time, both sections of the family may morph. Communities have a way of transforming that can take our breath away. Adaptation: your Inner Rhino is flexible, but not predictable. Same thing with your Outer Rhino!

Pretty neat, when you think about it.

By the way, bear in mind that in the picture, there is no telling which part of the landscape has set sail. One of those point-of-view puzzlers.

4-22 Bard

Shakespeare was a famous human who wrote plays in England. The plays are famous too. He was born in 1564, which was long ago. Or relatively recent, depending. Happy Birthday, Mr. Shakespeare.

Rhinos enjoy attending the theatre, but We confess, most plays deal with issues We don’t confront in the Wild. It probably has something to do with human concerns We don’t appreciate. Relationships in the Wild are less tortured.

This is not a portrait of Shakespeare, but one of Us pretending to be Shakespeare. This site is Your Inner Rhino, right? Not Your Inner Bard.

We like dressing up.

The Inexplicable

luckyIt comes to our attention daily that Luck is a factor in how things go. Good things, bad things, they happen to Us, but not in equal doses. Us, as in all of Us.

Luck is what We call that unknown element that determines what happens to whom when. Events are not judgments on the wicked or incompetent. Nor are they bestowed on the deserving. Experience is just that, Experience.

We do not understand. That is not within our sphere of comprehension, right?

When confronting Fate, We are all mute.

Evaluations

4-20 Evals

We admit that We are somewhat Critical. Part of that is Rampant Curiosity, part is Meticulous Observation, and part is Applied Experience. There are many other parts, but these will do for now.

Being insightful is not easy on Us. We see so much, and add up the clues with frightening acuity. We cannot count effectively, but We can do the math.

That said, the subject of our most aggressive examination is Our Inner Rhino. Each of Us has to come to grips with what is Outstanding, and that which Needs Improvement. We cannot fix any other critter, but We can pay close attention to our own little ways.

It can be trying, this need to pursue Perfection. But We would be skimping on our duty to leave it to somebody else. Nobody else has been given the same gifts each of Us has, Rhinos included.

No free rides in the Wild.

The Comedy of Errors

4-18 CofErrors

Life involves many small disasters and misunderstandings; the odds of doing brilliantly in a given situation are not outstanding. Too many variables and unknowns lurking in the margins. And half the time We are looking in the wrong direction to begin with. The Woops Factor.

The Big Task is keeping a cheerful mindset, moving forward as best We can. Each minor mess will get corrected shortly, so why flip out?

We figure We will be able to tell the difference between a mistake and the End of the World.

On the dot

On the Clock

Punctuality would be of interest if We could tell time. We can’t count. Also, none of Us owns a time piece.

It follows that We don’t make appointments with one another. Why invent a social commitment down the road? We need freedom to follow our stars. It will all work out; We’ll run into one another when We do.

Simplicity itself.

Slithering

4-15 SR slithering

Here you see (sort of) the happy Sumatran Rhino, attending to business in the lush and convoluted jungle called Home. This difficult and overgrown habitat is what keeps Us going. It’s very hard to find Us, or more importantly, catch Us.

We make paths for ourselves through the underbrush, leaving scent markers for one another as We go. We like to keep abreast of family news, but We find it safest to scoot solo.

We are gifted Skippers.
