Great Expectations
Today, in 1492, Mr. Christopher Columbus and 87 sailors set off to find China in three ships . Two months later they arrived in San Salvador, delighted to get to dry land. Needless to say, it was not China.
It seems too bad that Mr. Columbus felt bad about this dud trip, but that is what often happens when only one Outcome will satisfy.
Rhinos, Beware.
Tea Time
Tea is made by slipping organic material into water, and drinking the result. It can be cooked, or not, because the “tea” will flavor the water anyway. That is a function of time in the equation.
Rhinos like tea’s infinite variety of tastes. Nature creates it in both flowing water, and stagnant. You can always bet that upstream, interesting stuff has been added.
Mmmm, Delish!
Each One with a Cha Cha Cha
A benefit of Planning is that each Intention comes with its own scent, colors, rhythm, plus a Dance. The ballroom floor is never idle. We are out there, bathed in melody, wiggling and swirling around, everything twinkling, both lights and toes.
We are here discussing an internal process or phenomenon, but that doesn’t dim our enthusiasm.
Why should it?
Animal Energy
Jean Dubuffet, b. 1901, was an influential painter and sculptor, with a noteworthy career in France and the USA. He helped form a movement called Art Brut, looking for immediacy, a gritty approach outside traditional academic expectations.
It’s no wonder Rhinos think of M. Dubuffet as a pal. Talk about Inner Rhino!
We call this work “Rhino Gone Wild”. Where else would We go?
Scentomania
Every now and again a plant will go into hyper-drive, broadcasting scent. For creatures as attuned to olfactory stimulation as We Rhinos, proximity can be Overwhelming.
Bees may be stimulated, but Rhinos are driven to the brink of Apoplexy. We engage, We vibrate, We swoon.
Sometimes Rhinos fear that We are tooo Sensitive. Ah well, perhaps it is so.
Haste makes waste
Rhinos do not run late, and that’s a fact. This is due to a happy coincidence of factors. 1) Agitation can lead to weight loss, which Rhinos frown upon, 2) it would not occur to Us to make an appointment, and 3) We cannot tell time.
Our systems are regulated by dietary needs, to which We attend 24/7.
We get around to other things as seems appropriate, and let it go at that.
Points of View
Urges
When a Rhino sees a Temptation, the question usually is not “if”, but “how”.
Two questions present themselves in this example. One, how deep is the stream? and Two, if using the bridge, will some enterprising critter come and snag the treasure first? This is how Life in the Wild is: decisions, deliberations, calculations, calibrations, not to mention computations.
Yikes!
from Bad to Worse
Georg Grosz (b.1893) specialized in a grim sort of caricature, showing a decadent Berlin in the 1920s and 30s. Mr. Grosz had a singularly merciless take on humankind.
Rhinos seldom go over to the dark side. We are too busy.
Also, We do not smoke. Beyond other issues, it involves fire. We used to enjoy chocolate cigarettes, but they are no longer in fashion.
