Here today, Gone tomorrow

7-31 SayWhuuut?

Some Rhinos have more on the ball than others. That is how it is. If every Rhino were the cleverest one, the situation would probably be exhausting. We say ‘probably’ because We have never tried it.

What is surprising is that there is never a status quo. One day We wake up in a fog, then, out of the blue, We get a Message, and our Insides go into gear, all cylinders firing, lights flashing and rumbling ahead. Over there, another Rhino has gone into a temporary state of mental short circuitry, no matter how clever our yesterday may have seemed.

Each of Us has plenty of potential, but it’s expression comes and goes in unexpected rhythmic curves. Neat.

How dull would it be if these curves were predictable?

Somewhere in there…

7-25 RadishLore

Just Where is your Inner Rhino, you may well ask. We are not much more clear on that topic than you are, but We have a lot more lore than you, leastways as pertains to your Inner Radish.

A lesser-known (but no less crucial) bodily organ is the Radish, which is not attached to anything in particular inside you. We think of it as being near your funny bone, but that location varies from one critter to another. For all We really know, the Radish may shift around in there, driven by its own mysterious imperatives. (We cannot interview the Inner Radish, any more than you could get a good chat out of your pancreas, and that’s easier to locate.)

Rhinos often discuss the Radish in familiar terms, seeing it as a receptive nook for our True Selves. We can always visit it when We feel down, and get a booster shot of Rhino. Who can contemplate the Radish and not get a worthy chortle out of it? Right: Nobody. Whoosh! Back in business.

If you like, go back to March 18 to refresh your Radish Appreciation.

Musings

7-24 Notions

It’s busy inside Us, our Rhino Inner Rhino. So many intentions, conjectures, beliefs, theories, as well as foggy ideas, waiting for clarification. Some stand out, some others remain in the background, waiting to serve. It’s a crowd.

Wondering what will take focus in any given moment is stimulating. Sometimes ideas team up, sometimes one claims our full attention. Now and again they all take a break and let Us ponder what lies before Us.

And all of this goes on while We seek something to chew on. Rhinos are born to multi-task.

Perfection!!

7-22 Ideal!

Here is some Serious Nonsense: We could be perfect if only We attended to some flaw, selected almost at random from a list made up by people We don’t even know. Then everyone would adore Us, right? Shower Us with things We don’t need and can’t even eat!

Wake up call! Ring, ring! It’s for Us!

Nature has made Us perfect from the get-go. We don’t need to strive for anything that isn’t already in the package when We shoot down the tube! We are Nature’s darlings, and are here to celebrate our Inner Rhino, not to wish We were somebody else. Who We are is as grand as anything gets, and just as perfect.

Perfectionism… get real. Oh, yeah… and happy.

Hurlyburly

7-21 The Unpredictable

RhinoResearch indicates that Nature thrives in the face of Chaos. Things are never just one way; they usually go in both directions, wherever they are headed. Coming and Going, as well as Side-stepping. More and less, all at once.

We wonder if perhaps those critters that like Order may have landed on the wrong planet. Perhaps there is another place where things are shipshape, but obviously it’s not here.

RhinoTheories of Extinction have to do with the inability to go with the flow, or flows. Digging in one’s heels and dictating how things must be does not appear to impress Nature, and why would it? Rhinos prefer to welcome each impact, and see where it rocks or rolls Us. Even in Sumatra. Or especially in Sumatra.

Stubborn is not only Unattractive, but often disastrously Unrealistic.

Investigations

7-20 DoorsGalore

Each of Us has a key, or possibly is a key, but locating the lock where the key works requires Determination, (which is a Rhino specialty). We are lucky that way.

We proceed from situation to situation until We find ourselves in a promising spot. The key works like gang-busters, and We trot through that door! Things feel sort of triumphant. Ta Daaah! Arrived!

The part they don’t tell you is that each door opens onto another series of opportunities, each keyhole different. Again. Corridors and tiers of options. Gotta keep plugging.

In some metaphorical version of Life, that’s what it’s all about. At least for Us. Our Inner Rhino is complex, more about discovery than congratulations.

Glowing

7-18 TinkerBelled

Every now and then, We wake up to a Big Surpriser, a burst of energy and delight and anticipation and confirmation. We can’t predict these surges. They just bound onto the scene and do their thing, and then are on their way.

They are extraordinarily stimulating, and on the other hand, they are exhausting. Like a trip to the Circus. So We stay in a state of semi-suspended demi-excitement all the time, both hoping for, and dreading, these Visits. Life in the Wild is full of such visitations… just the way it is.

To Fizz or not to Fizz? We usually Fizz.

BaobabSpeak

7-13 Baobab

Rhinos are always interested in the core values and motivating processes of plants, in this case the Baobab Tree. We have tried over the millennia to focus our thinking in such a way as to absorb the Vegetative Vibrations, to root out the Baobab Mystique, as it were. Heh, heh.

It might be argued that Nature does not mean Us to comprehend Baobabness; the same opaque rules hold true for dandelions and lichen as well. They are true to themselves, and to their methods and schemes. Rocks too.

What’s also true is that We are not a great deal better at truly knowing what any other being, Rhinos included, has on its mind. We may observe, and draw conclusions, but ultimately, none of Us is entirely Knowable.

Said and done, do We each know ourselves that much better?

The Labs of Life

7-11 LabRats

When growing up, most Experiments are pretty random. We try one thing and another, but the consequences simply enhance our understanding of the world in which We function. Many Experiments are tried and true, so We are just confirming RFamily efforts of the past. Tradition.

Occasionally, somebody comes up with a Really Special Experiment, which can have Really Surprising Results.

It is a tough call, deciding whether to embark on Adventure or not. No outstanding answer that We know of. We’ll let you know if We zero in on a Policy.

Life’s Little Ways

7-10 RollerCoaster

On the one hand We have our Ups, and on the other We have our Downs. That’s Nature’s system.

But what perplexes Us is, why do the Downs always seem so much more speedy and alarming? Huh? What’s with that? It doesn’t seem quite fair.

But “fair” is not part of Nature’s system, or at least not consistently enough to notice.

Whatever Nature lacks, it isn’t integrity.
