Limitations

8-11 LookinGood

Rhinos are seldom caught up in arguments about appearance. Why would We be? Rhinos are Impressive beyond question.

Is there an ideal to which We would aspire? None that Nature has not addressed in our creation, right? Appearance seems entirely beside the point.

To the extent We understand Vanity, it seems an expression of insecurity and generalized hostility. Maybe We don’t grasp the subtleties of hoping to impress anyone with our exterior.

We can’t know Everything.

On the Same Wavelength

There are many Languages available, here and there. Urdu, English, or Swahili, what the speaker means and what the audience hears are unpredictable. Each speaker has personal thoughts that shape speech, and each listener has individual baggage skewing reception. Rhinos are often struck with how mixed up messages seem to get.

And there is communication without words of any kind, like Art. Even there, confusions exist between the artist and the viewer. You can read somebody’s explanation, but it never captures the essence of a painting, or sculpture, or drama, or song. We respond with some other part of Us; Art is an experience. That said, each of Us may respond differently at different stages of ourselves.

Rhinos don’t speak much at all. We communicate with some sounds, but mostly by scent. We heartily recommend it as a system.

The Silver Screen

7-30 Cinematized

Like a cinema presentation, our entire past is ready to roll upon request. When We say ‘entire’, We mean the whole shebang, back to who-knows-when, which was a lot ago. A Rhino Netflix, if you will. Or a memory bank with added attractions.

We are talking Inside here. As you would expect, there is a scent factor to each image, which informs the viewer of the intensity and mood of the given “film”, somewhat like a sound track or background music.

The experience can be mesmerizing. So whelming is it that We can only enjoy these viewings in small doses, lest We fry our circuits. Plus We have other things to attend to, mostly kids and dinner.

We feel pretty certain that these presentations are part of our in-the-womb training (see December 6, 2014), since none of Us is taken by surprise by the contents. We just refresh our faith in ourselves. And our faith in Nature.

These visions are Nature’s bedtime story. Some features come with cartoons, but not all.

High Seas

7-28 Afloat

Now and then Rhinos like to pretend that We are in our rational minds. The idea is touching, but hard to prove when We see ourselves in action. Often We are on our way, long before We have a clear destination.

In point of fact, what motivates Us is a roiling sea of emotions, churning away just below the surface. We row this way and that, but the tides are calling the shots currently (heh, heh: nautical humor).

Consequently We make up Reasons for what We’ve done and why. Keeps Us imaginative, just creating justifications and probable scenarios to explain how oddly We behave. There’s a lot going on inside that gets expressed, ‘understand’ it or not.

Just take a look at History to confirm our contention.

Yes and No

7-27 YinYang

Everything probably has some version of the not-thing, the part that makes the thing itself appear to be. Even when We can’t see it, We know it is there. If We concentrate on a potato, We know that everything around it is a setting for that potato; it is the not-potato, as it were.

We pointed this out to the Chinese some time ago, though it seems pretty obvious. Funny how ideas or concepts recycle themselves over time. No and yes?

Our Inner Rhino is the part of Us that is not the Rest of Us. Neither part functions quite right without the other. Simplicity itself. Inside or out. Coming or going.

7-24 Notions

It’s busy inside Us, our Rhino Inner Rhino. So many intentions, conjectures, beliefs, theories, as well as foggy ideas, waiting for clarification. Some stand out, some others remain in the background, waiting to serve. It’s a crowd.

Wondering what will take focus in any given moment is stimulating. Sometimes ideas team up, sometimes one claims our full attention. Now and again they all take a break and let Us ponder what lies before Us.

And all of this goes on while We seek something to chew on. Rhinos are born to multi-task.

Hurlyburly

7-21 The Unpredictable

RhinoResearch indicates that Nature thrives in the face of Chaos. Things are never just one way; they usually go in both directions, wherever they are headed. Coming and Going, as well as Side-stepping. More and less, all at once.

We wonder if perhaps those critters that like Order may have landed on the wrong planet. Perhaps there is another place where things are shipshape, but obviously it’s not here.

RhinoTheories of Extinction have to do with the inability to go with the flow, or flows. Digging in one’s heels and dictating how things must be does not appear to impress Nature, and why would it? Rhinos prefer to welcome each impact, and see where it rocks or rolls Us. Even in Sumatra. Or especially in Sumatra.

Stubborn is not only Unattractive, but often disastrously Unrealistic.

Rubbing the Wrong Way

7-16Genie

When the question comes up, “What fabulosity would you like?”, Rhinos are often stuck for an answer. We are in the habit of being contented with what We have.

We can imagine various alternative realities, but We don’t invest in the idea that one would necessarily be an improvement on what We have (nothing much) or where We are (here).

What more could one reasonably wish for?

Life’s Little Ways

7-10 RollerCoaster

On the one hand We have our Ups, and on the other We have our Downs. That’s Nature’s system.

But what perplexes Us is, why do the Downs always seem so much more speedy and alarming? Huh? What’s with that? It doesn’t seem quite fair.

But “fair” is not part of Nature’s system, or at least not consistently enough to notice.

Whatever Nature lacks, it isn’t integrity.

Chewing things over

7-6 ChewingThingsOver

To the casual passerby it may seem that Rhinos are comatose, munching away, but that is not the case. We spend half of our time eating, maintaining our fulsome figures. And during that activity, We have plenty of time for Deep Thinking and Cogitations on cosmic and lesser issues.

Our source material is infinite, all Natural. It is proof against Time and Place, and easily deals with Science and Nit Picking. And Deprecation, when it shows up.

Finding a Rhino dinner is sometimes trying, but the part when it gets into our mouths is entirely pleasurable. We have time to Think.

At which, We are good, sufficient to our needs. Is there more?
