Any Rhino can select a healthy snack from Nature’s bounty. We appraise veggies first on availability, then on freshness, flavor profile, ripeness, and individual leanings. Then We get busy.

Less common is the Rhino with the ability to identify a plant’s history, its mood and intentions, its hopes and dreams. Every living thing has an imagined destiny, but only a select few Rhinos can tune in for the broadcast. Only a few are receptive where it counts, plantwise.

Yes, Rhinos do specialize.

Fossils and their uses

Mr. Wm. Buckland (b. 1784), a British eccentric and paleontologist, was the first person to write a reasoned description of a prehistoric critter and its lifestyle, working from fossil remains. His efforts were enthusiastically received both publicly and scientifically.

He called his critter Megalosaurus, meaning Big Lizard. That was in 1824, for you who can recall it.

Were his findings conclusive? Not particularly, but he set a trend for exploration and investigation of the lives his discoveries led. Rhinos often think the same sense of wonder could be applied to our own relatives, the live ones as well as the extinct.

Bravado, and then some

Your Inner Rhino wants to hail the athletes at the Winter Games. If their efforts defy Logic, they certainly define Audacity. And a little of that is a good thing, We’d say. Every now and then.

We would also like to acknowledge all the contestants We did not see, not only in PyeongChang but also around the world. The Olympic Accomplishment  is determined by the mass of athletes, not by the winners. All the athletes are competing with their own possibility, ultimately.

At least, that’s how We Rhinos see it. The Victory is in the effort to Excel.

Combination Plays

Rolling our eyes is a Rhino method of dealing with Situations which defy comprehension. Alternatively, We use the Shrug. Both gestures have a range of expressive intensity.

We also use the two systems in tandem, including crescendos and rhythmic nuances, sometimes enhanced with oscillating snorts and pulsing huffs. Ancillary responses can also include tongue-clicking, toe-tapping and jaw-grinding.

When the Muttering begins, everybody heads for the hills.

Dreamland

Dreams are always somewhat weird, let’s face it. Usually it’s a series of unrelated experiences in the Land of Nod. This dream, then that.

But every once in a while, We have the same dream over and over in a night. We wake, We sleep, but when We dream, it’s the same old dream, part 47. So what’s with that?!?

Darned if We know.

On the Lookout

Rhinos are curious critters. We like to know things, to find things out. For instance, where do Moods come from, sunny or sour? Where do these mindsets spend their time before making themselves known?

We have arrived at no Conclusion thus far, which is standard for most Rhino Investigations. But should that forestall further Examination?

Answer: No.
