if We would be so kind…
“Thank you” is a welcome sentiment when offered, and We Rhinos enjoy feeling that way toward those who have been thoughtful with Us.
And so We say, “Thank You”.
The Rake’s Progress
Autumn is different in different places, but We like it, wherever and whenever. We love to roll around in the leaves, and inhale that special scent.
Even if it does make Us Rhinos sneeze.
Focal Length
An old Rhino Truth is that We can only pay attention to one thing at a time. Our observations may be stimulating, dazzling and astonishing; doubtless they are.
However, while a Rhino is communing with Topic A, Topics B through Z are being ignored.
That is just how things work, Naturally.
Nothing could be finer…
Today, in 1789, North Carolina was admitted to the Union, the 12th State. North Carolina has a rich and varied history, with a rich and varied wildlife.
Of interest is Kitty Hawk, site of the Wright brother’s famous flying experiments. December 17, 1903, a successful flight of 59 seconds!
Rhinos have tried to find out how birds feel about having their flight paths cluttered, but birds are hard to pin down on many topics, including this one.
When at first
Not all the practice on earth has ever made a Rhino a gifted rope-skipper. We have tried. We have tried and failed. Repeatedly. And yet again.
Determination is fine and dandy, but even for Us, a point comes when some other source of merriment demands investigation.
Best to do those investigations while We can still hobble.
Solid Advice
There is an old Russian Proverb that everyone should pick one’s own nose.
Rhinos always thought it referred to a distinguished Profile, but We are informed there is more to it.
Cross-cultural discussions can be confusing.
Here, but There
Doubtless you Readers spend part of your days looking at the calendar, murmuring “it’s November, all right”. Yeah, November. Some day in November.
But November is different in various places. Some places it’s chilly; others, it’s toasty, dry, or damp. It’s a lot to wrap a Rhino’s head around.
Jab a pin in a world map, and ask yourself, What are those folks up to? It’s a lot to contemplate. Makes our heads throb.
Marking Time
Today is the day We’re supposed to move the hands on the clock, up- or maybe it’s down. Anyway, it is a system to coordinate daily life with sunlight hours. Right?
For Rhinos, the day has no hours. nor do we have clocks of any kind, except the kind Inside. Today is always slightly different from Yesterday, and the day before. That’s just the Nature of things. All things.
Rhinos cannot control Time. It’s here for Us to enjoy, so that’s what We do.
Two will get you One…
North and South Dakota were admitted to the United States on November 2, 1889, in the same five minutes. The idea was that two states would have four senators, thus more influence nationally, though the population density was unimpressive.
The Dakotas were formerly part of the Dakota Territory, named for the Lakota Sioux Nation, which ranged far and wide on the plains. The western part of each state is a bit rumply, the eastern part is ideal for crops, having been flattened by glaciers.
There is plenty of room for Rhinos, but the weather is iffy: hot in the summer and bitter cold in the winter. Rhinos sometimes visit, but let it go at that.
