Calculations

For Rhinos, understanding the Past is like trying to understand the Present. It’s a no-win proposition. There are simply too many variables, most of which We have no way of comprehending.

The Past is interesting, We grant you. But We always come down to one version of what and why, versus another, if not a dozen variations.

The Past is great but relies on a lot of twists and turns. Gotta stay Flexible when dealing with the Past. Also, the Present.

Please be patient

Rhinos sometimes get a reputation for being Aloof, with connotations of Snobbery. Lest We be misunderstood, We hasten to point out : We just have our minds on other things.

Rhino Levels of Concentration are legendary, at least amongst ourselves. When preoccupied, We go into a trance state where We are inaccessible. We do not snub through intention; We are unavoidably detained somewhere… else.

Eventually We loop back to the planet, at which time We are glad to be sociable.

By Moonlight

The Full Moon is tonight. Rhinos have always assumed that the Moon is full of affectionate thoughts which shower down on Earth. By night. The Sun works the day shift.

Rhinos welcome sweet sentiments from each and every source. Not just today, but hourly.

The whole business is awash in poetry, and makes Us merry.

Just a moment

It may be that not every moment of one’s life seems worth remembering, but each and every moment is what makes up our History. Drop one moment, and the whole business comes crashing down. That’s how Time does things, and it’s no good arguing about it.

Each Rhino’s life is a series of moments. Some are swell, others a bore, but each is essential.

Until We run out of moments.

A Life of Service

Ms. Juliette Gordon Low (b. Oct.31, 1860) founded what was to be the Girl Scouts, starting in 1912. Her goal was to foster independence, physical health, and unity and friendship among young women. Your Inner Rhino applauds her aims and efforts.

Young Rhino gals are always in troops of one, with Mom as troop leader. The goals of this training are remarkably similar to Ms. Low’s.

Need We point out that ‘Inner Rhino’ is not a modern invention?

Fuddled

Trying to read between the Lines of Experience seems pointless. Maybe there is Nothing between the lines to read.  Yes, no, maybe, sometimes?

Happily, Rhino lack of Comprehension doesn’t seem to make a lot of difference. It may be that Rhinos are not meant to grasp each detail, or indeed, any detail. Not fully at any rate.

Sounds likely to Us.

An Ounce of Prevention

Ms. Annie Edson Taylor was the first person to go over Niagara Falls successfully in a barrel. She planned her stunt for her 63rd birthday. She made quite a splash, but never did an encore.

71 years earlier, in 1829, a Mr. Sam Patch jumped from the falls and survived, but no barrel was involved.

We Rhinos do not recommend this sort of endeavor. We recognize the Attractions of Lunacy, but We are mostly able to resist temptation. Mostly.
