Sometimes a Rhino will suddenly decide to return from somewhere to somewhere else in a Big Hurry. A Really Big Hurry.
For whatever reason. Usually, reason or logic has little to do with the situation. Gut Instinct is driving the car.
Which is one reason Rhinos are happy to have Gut Instinct, Naturally.
Today is the day We’re supposed to move the hands on the clock, up- or maybe it’s down. Anyway, it is a system to coordinate daily life with sunlight hours. Right?
For Rhinos, the day has no hours. nor do we have clocks of any kind, except the kind Inside. Today is always slightly different from Yesterday, and the day before. That’s just the Nature of things. All things.
Rhinos cannot control Time. It’s here for Us to enjoy, so that’s what We do.
November 1 is World Vegan Day. For Rhinos, every day is Vegan Day, that being all We eat.
We would be happy to show you Readers the Rhino Veggie Dance, but you can imagine it; it’s a bunch of jolly writhing, wriggling, stomping and chomping. It is not formalized, it’s spontaneous.
Veggies do that to Us. Also, they sustain Us.
Sometimes Rhinos overhear snide remarks about our being fat or awkward. In the Wild, no critter is ever fat; We eat to survive.
We come in a bulky package, it’s true. In our case, Bulk is a sign of glowing health and vigor. That’s the design Nature assigned for Us. We eat hearty or We die.
The standard to which Rhinos adhere is Natural; We own no mirrors.
As far as any Rhino can say, Heraclitus had a lot to say, probably more than We can grasp. A lot of contradictions, but two views are always better than one, right?
What We have taken from Heraclitus is that We, and everything else, are always in the process of shifting, one form to another, growing, decaying, happy, blue. There is no true Stasis. The pace may vary widely, but Change is ongoing.
Rhinos don’t need to prove anything to ourselves. We take things minute by minute; it works for Us, whoever and whatever We are becoming.
Heraclitus of Ephesus, philosopher, etc., observed:
Nobody steps into the same river twice, for it’s not the same water, nor is it the same Rhino.
Heraclitus, paying attention.
RhinoPrecepts are ideas that run below the surface of RhinoLife, ways of thinking that seem essential to maintaining RhinoEquilibrium.
Such an idea is that We Rhinos are here, now. It seems simple, but when We recall that our presence is a Privilege, not an inevitability, it shifts our pondering.
Helps keep Us in perspective.
Day to day, Rhinos are a determined and spunky gang, no doubt about it. That said, in the Larger Picture, Rhinos are as much Nature’s servants as any other living thing. Also, not-living things.
Nature calls the shots, and Everything makes its contribution, according to our design and potential.
Face it: if the sun and moon take marching orders from Nature, why not Rhinos?
Living on our own patches of the world, Rhinos are aware that not every other Critter envies Us Rhinos our Home Turf.
Still, it’s Home, and We each make the best of it. Usually happily.
Rhinos observe various Occupations with interest. Many of the goals of these professions are incomprehensible to Us.
Banking is such a profession. It is obviously seen as a Serious Pursuit, but it depends on counting, which We are the first to admit is not a RhinoSkill.
Also, since Rhinos in the Wild own nothing whatever, We have nothing to invest, except bemusement. And a distinct sense of style.
