Social Observations

3-9 Punk

Rhinos are sensitive, and when We are under the weather, one way or another, We do not require anyone to say We look tired, lousy, or blue. If it looks like that from the Outside, try to understand that it looks that way a lot more from the Inside.

Each of Us already knows when it’s not a good day. Truly, We do.

Location, Location, Location

3-6 Opportunity

In our millions of years of Experience, Rhinos have concluded that all lands are Lands of Opportunity. Some appear more promising than others, it’s true. Some places seem more user-friendly than others.

Fortunately for our Species, Rhinos like a challenge. It may account for our ongoing happy dealings with Nature. And in some unlikely locations, We must say. We eat what is dished out.

We also keep our eyes peeled for options.

Aggressionary Musing

3-7 S-defense

Occasionally Rhinos are asked why We don’t defend ourselves better from the hi-tech onslaughts of the World. We are always surprised, since the answer is obvious. There is no adequate defense against sophisticated weaponry, plus, We own nothing.

Where are the bragging rights in killing a defenseless critter, man or Rhino?

Rhinos must deal with Nature, daily. There We can stand our ground, win or lose. And We do. Unarmed.

For Piet’s Sake

3-7 Mondrian

Piet MONDRIAN’s birthday was today, back in 1872 in Holland. He was a Modern Theorist, in the sense that he was trying to conceive of art as something beyond representation.

His investigations may look Simple, but they are another Version of Complexity, sort of a yin-yang idea of perception. Truth veiled by Truth.

Very Rhino, when you get right down to it. Yes but No but Yes but No but Yes.

Buon compleanno, Signore!

3-6 R-David

Michaelangelo’s birthday seems special. Like all great works of art, the Artist transforms awareness of the universality, magnificence and complexity of Creation with his talents. His accomplishment glows with Inner Rhinoness.

Of course, if a Rhino had been wielding the chisel, the results might have been different, but Michaelangelo got there first. He was 21 when he got started on The David.

Rhinos were otherwise occupied in the early 1500s. Otherwise, who knows what We’d all be gaping at in Florence?

Nature’s AC

Sunshine is all very well, but a little relief is welcome, when We can get it. Even if We had parasols, they wouldn’t go far in shielding Us, even if We could carry them. Which We can’t.

So We depend on shrubbery or trees or rocks to provide Us with a Shadow. Shadows are Nature’s air conditioners.

Around midday, We all give up and relax until the sun gets a little less aggressive. Ah, Siesta!

Seasons Greetings

3-4 Seasons

Antonio Vivaldi (born this date in 1678) composed The Four Seasons. It was then and is now a big hit.

Rhinos are all for Seasons, but in the Wild, Seasons are unpredictable. We can never be sure what Seasons will get up to, one year to the next. They account for Trends, but the Specifics are all higgledy-piggledy. From our point of view, there may be two seasons, or possibly a new one daily.

With weather, all bets are off.

Music for Wigglers

3-2-16 Smetana

Bedrich Smetana wrote The Bartered Bride back in 1870 or so, and that did big things for Czech opera. We are glad he took the trouble.

The story of this opera is fuzzy to Rhinos, but the folk-fervor of the music is tremendous. Makes Us want to wiggle.

Wiggling is always good, and keeps Us fit for our daily assignments, whatever they turn out to be.
