Plymouth Rockers

The fine folk of Massachusetts became the sixth state of the USA in 1788, today. A good thing for all concerned.

Massachusetts is known as a Party State, always ready for a good time, and popular with Rhinos then as now. Possibly the most famous get-together was the Boston Tea Party of 1773, remembered fondly by the locals. Also Historians.

Good Times make a lasting impression, at least, that’s how We see it. Hail, Massachusettsians, one and all!

Oldies but Goodies

Heraclitus of Ephesus (now in Western Turkey) was a Greek philosopher, born around 540 BC. Nothing he wrote remains, but he is quoted by later philosophers, and his ideas are still worth pondering.

Heraclitus was called “Obscure” because his insights defined matter and matters as endlessly changeable, shifting and developing. Nothing is permanent.

It is obvious why Heraclitus is a Rhino favorite; He was not Right, he was Aware. Also, We are told, he was prone to weeping.

Lima, Peru

There is an old expression, “Spilling the Beans”. It refers to divulging private or secret information. It is not a Rhino phrase.

That is because 1) Rhinos don’t have many secrets since all our shared info is by Scent, and 2) If Rhinos spilled any beans, We would eat them up, probably before they hit the ground..

Seems simple, once it’s been explained, right?

What goes up…

Colorado is quite a state, established in 1876. All of the state is high, and higher, with much mountain and peak activity. Up you go, down you go. To the East, things flatten out a bit, but the Rocky Mountains are more plentiful in Colorado than anywhere else.

You may not be aware of this, but Rhinos are sensitive to mountainous terrain. If you want to go from A to B, in Colorado, you usually have to go to X, which is often a daunting climb, followed by an alarming descent. All beautiful scenery, but the A-to-X-to-B business is vastly more demanding than a straight shot would be. As the Crow flies, not so bad; as the Rhino hikes, Unforgettable.

What Colorado has a lot of is Nature, and much of it as Nature made it. Thank you, Coloradoans & Coloradans, one and all.

Hail, Arkansas!

Song: The Arkansas Traveler (with partially amended lyrics.)

Oh once upon a time in Arkansas,   A Rhino sat at his little cabin door
And fiddled at a tune that he liked to hear,  A jolly old tune that he played by ear.

It was raining hard but the fiddler didn’t care.  He sawed away at the popular air.
Though his rooftop leaked like a waterfall,  That didn’t seem to bother the Rhino at all.*

A catchy old backwoods song from Arkansas, the Natural State. What nickname could recommend a state more highly?

Weather Reportage

We Rhinos live where it does not Snow, virtually ever. However, We do like to hear about it, and imagine it. We see ourselves involved in its many mysteries and conjurations. A good time, and economical, as good times go.

Of course, our ancestors, Wooly Rhinos & Friends, used to tromp around in snow and frost, etc., but things were much cooler Long Ago. Don’t ask why. We don’t know.

Rhino Blizzard Prep is all speculative, at least in the Wild, but trust Us: if and when that first flake lands, Rhinos will be all over it!
