National Bad Poetry Day

8-18 Poetry

We make what contribution We can to your festivities, however unusual some of them may seem to Us. Here follows a sample effort:

The average Inner Rhino Reader
Does not own a parakeet-r,
To this blog a hot stampeder,
Trembling, sweating and weak-kneeder,
Rejoicing in its pedigreed-r
Your Inner Rhino can’t be beat-r.

Chitwan Residentials

Here We are, the Greater One-horn Rhinos, or, Indian Rhinos, all the same thing. We are not fussy. Many of Us live in south-central Nepal, hence the title. It’s a sanctuary for wildlife, among whom We are happy to be numbered. Still.

Beside our sumptuous bulk, say 5000 pounds, give or take a thousand, We happen to have the most breathtaking folds and bumples all over Us. Some people think it makes us indestructible, but that is not so; We are permeable. The single horn is also definitive; you are unlikely to see a Javan Rhino, the only other one horned species today.

One horn, that’s Us. And huggable. We are an affectionate crowd.

We live where they make Monsoons, which are a Big Experience. We like them. Good and Wet.

Baked Goods

8-14 CakeR oh ho

We have been thinking of old cronies and pals and family members. And We thought, what if each friend was like an ingredient in a cake, and We are the cake, enjoying the riches each friend had bestowed on Us. We are flavored by all those remarkable interactions, longterm or brief, each with its own distinct flavor.

We are born dynamic with Inner Rhinotude, but We are enhanced along the way by experience and good friendship.

Glad Tidings

Sand castles are mighty fine, and Rhinos greatly enjoy architecting them. Add a spire here, a drawbridge there, and moat yourself silly. What can hold Us back?

The precluding issue might be that We do not live near the sea, most of Us. So We have to do our sand-castling in theory, rather than sand itself. We are not daunted however; We just proceed.

Piddling limitations do not affect Rhino Good Times.

The Silver Screen

7-30 Cinematized

Like a cinema presentation, our entire past is ready to roll upon request. When We say ‘entire’, We mean the whole shebang, back to who-knows-when, which was a lot ago. A Rhino Netflix, if you will. Or a memory bank with added attractions.

We are talking Inside here. As you would expect, there is a scent factor to each image, which informs the viewer of the intensity and mood of the given “film”, somewhat like a sound track or background music.

The experience can be mesmerizing. So whelming is it that We can only enjoy these viewings in small doses, lest We fry our circuits. Plus We have other things to attend to, mostly kids and dinner.

We feel pretty certain that these presentations are part of our in-the-womb training (see December 6, 2014), since none of Us is taken by surprise by the contents. We just refresh our faith in ourselves. And our faith in Nature.

These visions are Nature’s bedtime story. Some features come with cartoons, but not all.

Rarified Atmosphere

7-27 Moonshine

An Inner Rhino Public Service Announcement: Friday the 31st is a full moon. This is something special called a Blue Moon, which is a second full moon within a single month. It happens seldom, like every three years, give or take a decade, hence the expression “once in a blue moon”.

The whole business is related to numbers, so We had to seek help. Rhinos are OK with 2, but ultra-shaky on 31. When We sing “The Twelve Days of Christmas” We just sing through 4 calling birds, then repeat a few times. Too many numbers.

Doubtless you will want to align your wardrobe with this event, so a few days notice is probably useful.

Yes and No

7-27 YinYang

Everything probably has some version of the not-thing, the part that makes the thing itself appear to be. Even when We can’t see it, We know it is there. If We concentrate on a potato, We know that everything around it is a setting for that potato; it is the not-potato, as it were.

We pointed this out to the Chinese some time ago, though it seems pretty obvious. Funny how ideas or concepts recycle themselves over time. No and yes?

Our Inner Rhino is the part of Us that is not the Rest of Us. Neither part functions quite right without the other. Simplicity itself. Inside or out. Coming or going.
