Seasonal Hypotheses

6-20 MURMAID

This being the first day of Summer (because they say so), Rhino minds turn to Summer Stuff. At the top of the list is Mermaid Notions; what are they like, what’s on their minds, where do they come from?

Rhino mermaidenly ideas are entirely governed by myth. We do not know any mermaids firsthand, but their mystique is only enhanced by our lack of acquaintance. Mermaids are elusive.

One thing We ponder: if Rhinos are made up of greens, which We eat, are mermaids made up of kelp?

Dads

6-19DaDay

Expectations regarding Family Dynamics vary from one culture to another.

Today celebrates Fatherhood. Rhinos are for it, though We don’t form into family groupings as many of our Readers do. Few of Us ever have anything to do with our sires. That is just how it is.

One thought about Dads: without them, where would We be?

Athleticism

6-18 juggle

World Juggler’s Day comes but once a year. Given Rhino applicable skills, it could come less often than that.

We mostly contemplate these performance possibilities with a knit brow. We feel things are going well if We toss a ball and catch it again on the same day.

When juggling, our standards are modest.

20th Century Modern

6-17 RiteOfSpring
Igor Stravinsky, born in 1882, composed The Rite of Spring, which was first performed in Paris in 1913. It was unexpected and entirely novel. Both the music and the choreography, plus its violent mindset, caused a riot.

What appeals to Rhinos is The Rite of Spring‘s raw muscularity, its throbbing pulse, its drive for fertility at all costs. All very Rhino.

If the story seems a bit grim, it aligns with Nature, where things are seldom gratuitously pretty. Hence Modern Dance.

More is More is More

6-7GroomsGrass

Rhinos everywhere hail the artistic accomplishments of Red Grooms, whose birthday this is. What a raw, frenetic, fearless, energetic crazed vision of things. Perfect. VeryRhino.

Mr. Grooms has focused on the Urban Experience, so YIR presents a version of Nature stuff, which We know more about. Naturally.

Rhinos like to see the Wild celebrate itself. That’s why We call it the Wild.

On with the Show!

6-6 CinemaME

In the Ego’s Cineplex, each of Us Rhinos is always the Featured Attraction. The show runs every minute of every day. Never a dull moment.

Stardom is heady stuff.  The interesting feature of the discussion is that We are not only the Talent, but We are also the only Audience. That’s right! We also embody the primary Fan Club.

Less delightfully, We also have to function as Critic.

Up, Up and Away…

6-4 Balloon

Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier did their first public demo of their Hot Air Balloon, over in France, on this date, but in 1783. It was a successful experiment, all things considered.

When the balloon drifted down in a field, the natives massacred it, for reasons known best to them. (They were French, in case that helps understand their state of mind.)

The little crowd in the picture represents the first critters to ever go up in a balloon, which they did in September. All except the Rhino, which was too heavy. Everybody came down safe and sound.

Soon after, people went up, but YIR can’t cover everything, n’est-ce pas?
