Grimm Tidings

2-24 Grimm #1

Once upon a time in Germany, Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm famously started collecting folk tales. (Today is Wilhelm’s birthday, or it was, back in 1786.)

Clearly, many Grimm tales are based on Olde Rhino Stories, transformed for a human readership. The Very Absolutely Best Story Ever however is still Hansel and Gretel. Although everything in H&G is a perplexing distortion from a Rhino point of view, it has some haunting hold on Rhinoid awareness. Why, We cannot say.

Hansel and Gretel reverberates…

Orders of Business

2-10 Unlisted

We Rhinos like to celebrate our relationship with Nature. Seriously, what is the other choice?

Things that always entertain Nature are agendas and schemes and order. Make a list, and see what happens; count to two and you are off doing something else, distracted. That’s how lists work, here to show Us that We are crazy.

Can’t have too many reminders of that, right?

Now and Then

2-9 Now v X
Keeping focus on the Moment is not as easy as it sounds, leastwise for Us Rhinos.

There are many temptations. In one ear is the hollering, whining, and static from the Past and in the other are the combined voices of a) Dread and b) Hope and its rosy version of the Future, whenever that might occur.

The Rhino solution is to keep chewing. Chewing solves everything of importance. Ask anybody.

Commonsensicality

2-9 CommonSense
February 9 is Mr. Thomas Paine’s birthday. Hooray.

Back when, Mr. Thomas Paine wrote something called “Common Sense”. We Rhinos have not read it, but We do like the title. Apparently it was an appeal to his readers to use their wits for their own betterment.

Is what was common in his day, less common now?

Organized Sports

1-7 GameDay

Not so much for Rhinos. Our approach to games is not successful, and the rules, whatever the game, mostly seem arbitrary to Us. Why play by those rules when there are so many alternative rules all around, as any booby can see.

Also, as Anyone would tell you, We are not graceful losers

Omens & Vibrations

2-6 toTen

Even-tempered and benign as We generally are, there are things that do set Rhinos off. We are not wired to put up with absolutely Everything. Prior to the ensuing episodes, We try to give fair warning, broadcasting signals to those in the vicinity.

We might try ‘counting to ten’, but as We have said, We can’t count that high.

In crisis, Rhinos seldom remember what number comes after ‘two’.
