In this weird week leading to the New Year, We pause to glance back over what’s been, wondering how it relates to what’s coming. Then We change the topic or turn up the music. Maybe this weird week is called a Holding Pattern.
A hold-your-breath Pattern. Or a hold-onto-your-hat Pattern.

Rhinos don’t actually write request letters, it’s true.
But We can wish that We had more Sympathetic Understanding for those with whom We disagree. Any help We can get along those lines is welcome. If Santa has Fellow Feeling in a capsule, We’d like as much as can be spared.
In this holiday season and in the years to come, Rhinos aspire to Harmony when and where We can accomplish it.
Paul Klee (b.1879) was a Swiss Expressionist-Cubist-Surrealist, among other things.
Rhinos don’t have a lot to say about him, other than ‘Bravo’. That pretty much covers it.
Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser (b.1928) was an Austrian artist and architect with his own idiosyncratic recipe. He never met a straight line he liked. A wonderful appreciation of color and saturation, and a childlike delight in spontaneity. AND an early supporter of environmental protection.
What Rhino could resist a guy like that? Why would We try?
Nostadamus, born 1503, is known for reading the future. Exactly how he managed it is muddled, and has been ever since he wrote The Prophecies. It was in French, which shows how clever he was.
Rhinos cannot foresee things particularly, but We are good at spotting trends. A few hints and We can tell the future pretty nicely. We can do the math of probabilities.
As shown, 1+1 is easy. When it’s 2+2 time (higher math) We get exhausted and have a wee nap. Then off to other business.
Now and then Rhinos are simply knocked sideways by Affection. Something sets Us off, and We appreciate the critters around Us, Rhino or not, here or there or now or then.
And in those moments, We realize We could have been feeling that way all along.
Marvelous.
Is there anything to be said in its defense?
Nature gives Us brains so We do not have to be thoughtless.
Happily, in the Wild, We own nothing with which to deface the environment.
In 1918, when Denmark granted Icelandic Independence, the natives were all happy about it. Naturally.
What perplexes Us Rhinos is how one people can own another people. It doesn’t seem sensible. For Rhinos, it just would not do; what an Idea!
At any rate, let Us all celebrate a Happy Ending, however long it took to get it.
Lucy Maud Montgomery (b.1874) was a successful Canadian author. She wrote in many forms, but Anne of Green Gables is her best known series today.
Anne is a spunky character, allowing no nonsense or disrespect, despite her romantic (and a bit prim) core. An interesting combination of traits, all in one credible package.
