Proprioception!

11-17BodyAware

Proprioception is up for RhinoAnalysis today. What it means is knowing where your body is at any given moment, and how it got there and where it’s going next.

It may be that as Big Animals, Rhinos have too many parts or places on ourselves to keep track of without going bonkers. We have to trust to our natural gifts to guide Us around the Wild. Wondering about our elbows and our metatarsals all the time is more than We can manage.

Proprioception apparently requires more disciplined minds than ours.

We admit it.

Misbehaving

8-24 Giggler!

Serenity is not always easy. Rhinos embody Poise naturally, it’s true, but there are moments when We are seized by an irrepressible need to giggle or guffaw. Out of nowhere comes a burst of mirth which will not be denied. Contrary to good taste and self-possession, We are reduced to giggling.

Heaven knows, Rhinos understand decorum. Unfortunately, the more Serious and Important the occasion, the greater the hazard factor. We wrestle, We quake, We repress, but no, the cork flies out of the bottle!

We fizz.

Here We are, the Greater One-horn Rhinos, or, Indian Rhinos, all the same thing. We are not fussy. Many of Us live in south-central Nepal, hence the title. It’s a sanctuary for wildlife, among whom We are happy to be numbered. Still.

Beside our sumptuous bulk, say 5000 pounds, give or take a thousand, We happen to have the most breathtaking folds and bumples all over Us. Some people think it makes us indestructible, but that is not so; We are permeable. The single horn is also definitive; you are unlikely to see a Javan Rhino, the only other one horned species today.

One horn, that’s Us. And huggable. We are an affectionate crowd.

We live where they make Monsoons, which are a Big Experience. We like them. Good and Wet.

Limitations

8-11 LookinGood

Rhinos are seldom caught up in arguments about appearance. Why would We be? Rhinos are Impressive beyond question.

Is there an ideal to which We would aspire? None that Nature has not addressed in our creation, right? Appearance seems entirely beside the point.

To the extent We understand Vanity, it seems an expression of insecurity and generalized hostility. Maybe We don’t grasp the subtleties of hoping to impress anyone with our exterior.

We can’t know Everything.

Supper Time

5-2 RSoup

In the Wild, it does not matter what any of Us eat on a daily basis. What is for sure is that, however and whenever We end our days, We ourselves will be eaten. The Wild recycles what is left of Us, using it to benefit one and all.

Our Inner Rhino has already moved along in its own Natural Progression.

Quite a tidy system, one way and another.
