Heraclitus of Ephesus, philosopher, etc., observed:
Nobody steps into the same river twice, for it’s not the same water, nor is it the same Rhino.
Heraclitus, paying attention.
Heraclitus the Obscure, the Greek philosopher, is remembered through various observations he made, one such being: The way up, and the way down, are the same.
Also, today We salute Mr. Pablo Picasso, born 1881, whose creative works have had a lasting impact on modern art.
Rhinos, having no national affiliation, appreciate the achievements of everybody, wherever they are doing whatever. Simplicity itself.
Heraclitus of Ephesus (now in Western Turkey) was a Greek philosopher, born around 540 BC. Nothing he wrote remains, but he is quoted by later philosophers, and his ideas are still worth pondering.
Heraclitus was called “Obscure” because his insights defined matter and matters as endlessly changeable, shifting and developing. Nothing is permanent.
It is obvious why Heraclitus is a Rhino favorite; He was not Right, he was Aware. Also, We are told, he was prone to weeping.
RhinoPrecepts are ideas that run below the surface of RhinoLife, ways of thinking that seem essential to maintaining RhinoEquilibrium.
Such an idea is that We Rhinos are here, now. It seems simple, but when We recall that our presence is a Privilege, not an inevitability, it shifts our pondering.
Helps keep Us in perspective.
In the Wild there is always a lot going on, much random information on what’s doing and why. Some of those updates are essential, but a lot of it is gossip.
The RhinoSystem is to look disinterested, passing on as little data as We can.
The same little bird that reports to Us, is the bird who chatters about Us.
All Rhinos know that it does not pay to fret over getting lost. In fact, We seldom think of being lost, since We would have had to have an idea of where else We should be.
Our basic stance is that We are fine where We are. If We aren’t fine where We are, We probably know it. So that creates a situation where We are moving “away from”, rather than “moving toward”.
Our Rhino Intention is avoidance. It sounds easier than it seems in fact.
In the morning of October 7, 1737, a cyclone triggered 40 foot waves which crashed down on the Ganges River delta, in the Bay of Bengal, India, wreaking havoc to the population, both human and critter, and property.
Knowing these historical events makes our occasional inconveniences due to Weather seem trifling, at least to Us Rhinos.
On September 27, 1290, there was an enormous Earthquake in the Yuan Empire of China. Whole villages entirely disappeared.
Nature may be relatively predictable on a daily basis, but there are occasional Events which cannot be foreseen or comprehended.
Rhinos, as well as Every Other Critter on the Earth must absorb these catastrophes at Nature’s hand. Sad but true.
Rhinos do not count above three. We go one, two, three, Lots, and let it go at that. It serves our needs, as We see them, and has for millions of years. See, Millions = Lots, right?
The Abacus is fun to play with, shoving the beads around, but what it “means” is mostly uninteresting, to Rhinos. More or Less.
On the other hand, today marks Your Inner Rhino‘s Post No.1800, which is, as mentioned, a Lot.
