Small Needle/ Enormous Haystack

Today in 1781 William Herschel and his sister Caroline discovered the planet Uranus, using his telescope. This revelation was astonishing, since it had been a long time since anybody had found a planet. They also saw two of Uranus’ moons (of twenty-seven).

In case you forgot, Uranus is about 1.8 Billion miles away, which is like 720 thousand times around the Earth.

Very Big Deal it was, and remains, as discoveries go.

Disgruntlement

However fashionable Tantrums and Displays of Temper may currently be, Your Inner Rhino feels compelled to remind its Readers of an Olde Rhino Truism: If you behave too oddly, your head will pop off. Which you are likely to regret.

Rhinos may be impatient when confronted with irregularity, but We do not act up. Honestly.

Mutuality

3-6synergy860

Synergy is the result of combined efforts of two or more somethings, among which Rhinos count, big time. (We think of ourselves as ‘Something Else”.) The idea is that by allying ourselves with other living things, We each get a boost. Win/Win.

We suspect that rocks may also make their own contribution to the general dynamic. There they are, making a statement, right?

It’s nice to know Rhinos have back-up, whichever way We turn, but not for free. We have to pay attention.

Location, location, location!

2-4focus859

Today Your Inner Rhino is focusing on Context- where We are and what’s going on there and are We paying attention?

No Rhino is free of place and time, except mentally. We are each part of a bigger something, and that in turn is part of even bigger somethings, and so on.

We thought it was high time to credit, not ourselves, but the Everything Else.

Squirrel-ish

Big Question: why is it that when Rhinos sneeze, our Excellent Ideas decide to vanish or go hide or something?

Ideas are slippery. Give them a chance and they scamper off.

True, some of them show up again. We prefer to think that those are the A+ ones.

What’s Up?

2-19copernicus846

Mr. Nicolaus Copernicus (b.1473) found out that the planets go around the sun. It was a big discovery, though unpopular at the time.

What’s surprising is that he made his observations with the naked eye, no telescope at all. The skies over Poland must be very clear.

Rhino vision is not outstanding, so We are doubly-wowed. Visionary guy, Mr. Copernicus.
