What’s New?

7-26 Jeepers

The Rhino capacity for Astonishment is legendary (among Rhinos, at any rate). Our hours are peppered with Surprises because We expect things to stay put and behave themselves.

They don’t; hence the Astonishment. Moment by moment, We are assaulted with Newness, clad in her many outfits and moods. Out she hops, demanding attention and expanding our horizons.

We Rhinos are happily and perpetually flabbergasted!

Enter, in Style

7-18 JFucik cannon

Julius Fucik was born today in 1872, in Prague. He is the ‘Bohemian Sousa’, a reputation based on his many spirited compositions.

The Entrance of the Gladiators, a prime Fucik march, is mostly associated with Circus Extravaganzas. We recommend you look him up on YouTube, just for the associated thrill you will experience by hearing his work. Its familiarity is a good part of its appeal.

Rhinos applaud Extravagance in its many forms, don’t We?

Great Expectations

7-12 PineWhatever 607

Most Rhinos do not live where there are either Pine Trees or Pineapples. So Ignorance can lead to problems or disappointments at Harvest Time.

Given a few hints, We connect the dots and get matters straightened out.

Pine Cone, Pine Apple, they sound so similar. Right? But We can tell you this: they don’t taste the same.

Headlong

7-7 Blindfolded

Sometimes Rhinos make a Bad Decision, barely noticing. We blind ourselves to other options. Then off We stumble.

The Bad Decision limits our perception. Finding a downward spiral is no trick at all, though the speed of the descent is unpredictable.

Getting out of a hole seems impossible. It isn’t, but We first have to remove the blindfold.

Telling it like it is

7-5 Insightful
Self Evaluation is not easy, even for Us. Rhinos like to think of ourselves as Insightful. We are mostly on the alert, assessing and compressing information. We try.

That effort does not, unfortunately, guarantee that Rhinos are entirely and 100% clever.

However, when We take a look at what other species are doing, We feel pretty good about ourselves.

Dads

6-19DaDay

Expectations regarding Family Dynamics vary from one culture to another.

Today celebrates Fatherhood. Rhinos are for it, though We don’t form into family groupings as many of our Readers do. Few of Us ever have anything to do with our sires. That is just how it is.

One thought about Dads: without them, where would We be?

Points of View

6-18 StoryPower

Stories are fascinating. Not all Rhinos like the same tales, but each and every Rhino has a set of myths that help to define that individual. Those stories become part of that Rhino’s fabric, much the same way as Memories, themselves stories We hold dear. They are touchstones of our perception.

Stories invite an investment of selfhood that opens up a World for each Rhino. The Rhino may be one character, or all the characters. Nothing in the story has to stay constant, but at its core, that story resonates with that Rhino.

Like it or not, We are all composed of these interpretive ingredients.
