Cleaning up her act…

8-19 Macbeth

Macbeth is a Tragedy, meaning things go from Bad to Worse in 5 Acts. This one is about a warrior and his wife who decide to seize the Scottish throne by any means necessary. Ambition proves to be a cruel mistress for sure.

Late in the play, Lady Macbeth decides to wash her hands of her complicity in a medley of murders in the first 3 acts. Unfortunately for her, even the perfumes of Arabia are unequal to the task. She comes unglued. Actually, she was pretty unglued before she even started scrubbing.

Wicked Ways do not pay off, as any Rhino could have told them.

A Rose by any other Name…

8-18 MLewis

Mr. Meriwether Lewis was born today, in 1774. In 1804 he and his pal William Clark were commissioned to go find out what was out West, since nobody besides the local inhabitants knew.

Being Discovered is a peculiar experience. We Rhinos know about it. Somebody comes to your neighborhood, and it becomes theirs. How this could be so is a mystery. It makes no sense. But trust Us, it happens all the time.

Rhinos do not have names in the human sense; We know one another by scent. But if We were to have usual name names, We would pick Meriwether right away. We would all be named Meriwether. It would be too excellent to pass up.

Possibly that idea defeats the point of a name? If they have a point?

Ice Cream Truckin’

8-14 CrmSickle

Today is National Creamsickle Day. As is often the case, it is pretty toasty and humid outside, making Creamsickles both welcome and impractical. Ah well, even Rhinos can’t have it all.

The Creamsickle was invented in 1905 by a Californian named Frank Epperson, age 11. There is a conversation grabber!

YIR Food for Thought

8-11 hbirthdays

Birthdays are mostly good things in a mindless way. Yeah, yeah. Congratulations. But birthdays musn’t be taken for granted, say We Rhinos. In Nature, many things can throw you off track, once and for all.

We can bet on this: if We are interested in Longevity (and who isn’t?), We just have to accept that Birthdays are going to be part of the process, on a regular basis.

Stands to reason, right?

Kissing up

8-10 Pleasing

We can’t imagine why Rhinos would bother to try pleasing everybody. It’s a fruitless task, for sure. What pleases one critter agitates another critter. Where does all that second-guessing lead to? Right, nowhere much.

We are not recommending UNpleasantry. We are merely saying that other critters’ mindsets are theirs to improve. Not our business.

A reminder: We don’t have teeth like the ones in the picture. Just grinding teeth, African Rhinos, that is. But all those teeth make for a more passive-aggressive and unctuous smile.

Illuminational

7-30 lotsa light
One thing Rhinos occasionally remind ourselves about is How Much Light there is, all over the place. Everything gets lit up, wherever We go. We are awash in light. Even in the night, there is plenty of light for us to see what’s what. Or at least enough to not get into trouble.

We know that daylight comes from the sun, but where does night light come from?

Darned if We know…?
