We get a Bang out of you!

7-4 July4 2016

We Rhinos don’t like to grab the credit for every little thing, but those of you who assume that Betsey Ross made Flag #1 all by herself need to do some research. You’ll find that that myth has had a lot of “embroidery”.

Rhinos do not actually sew, nor do We spin or weave. Still, We are good at bringing pressure to bear. Motivational , that’s Us! Also Visionary (while We are tooting our own horns).

Happy birthday, one and all.

Tracking the Inhalated

7-2 BigAir

The Inner Rhino investigations of where Air comes from take Us to forest and jungly places where there are, by definition, scads of trees. It turns out that trees are not just decorative. They are busy making air which gets circulated around the world by the wind, probably. It is Nature making surprising things happen, which should be no surprise.

We don’t know just how the trees manufacture Air, but perhaps they are none too clear on it either. Maybe they don’t even know what they are accomplishing.

Nonetheless, We’re happy those trees are on the job. It’s a big world out here.

Enjoying ourselves

7-1 NiftyUs

It might seem like a burden, marching forth slathered with praise and accolades galore. Fortunately, Rhinos are built for the task. Nature and Family History have prepped Us.

Occasionally somebody will suggest Humility to Us. For Us, Humility seems like a denial of our RhinoCentric approach to matters. What feels appropriate to Us is Celebration of our bountiful provision.

Maybe other critters have a lot to be be humble about?

International Mud Day

6-29 MudPies

Here We are again, that big June celebration!

We thought We should go over the recipe again, in case you forgot. You will need: 1) dirt and 2) water. These can be mingled in an infinite set of combinations to achieve your particular goals. Consistency is a matter of individual preference, ranging from dirty water to moistened earth. Feel free to add texture and variation with bits of plant or handfuls of gravel. Or fragrant bits and pieces of whatever is handy.

It’s a big World out there. Just add water! Then Partay!

Lumberjackery

6-28 PaulBunyanDay

Today is Paul Bunyan Day. We have always had a soft spot for him and his logging exploits, no matter how improbable. He puts the Tall in tall tales.

In the Rhino Bunyan versions, Paul is not accompanied by an Ox, but a Blue Radish named Babe.

With a radish for a buddy how could anybody go wrong?

Growth Spurts

6-24GrowSpurt

Youth is surprising. One morning We wake up, and part of Us has grown! Was like that, now like this! The shifts grab our attention when We notice, which is not all the time (another feature of Youth).

Rhinos are never certain, even after 50 million years of wondering about it, whether We grow inside, making the outside stretch, or the outside grows and the inside has too hustle to fill it up…?

We don’t fret about these matters. Nature has worked out all those details for Us, allowing Rhinos to resolutely fumble forward.

The Hornpipe Amidships

6-23 AhoyMaT
Today Your Inner Rhino provides a proverb: “Smooth Seas never made a Seaworthy Sailor”. Rhinos are enthusiastic swabs and like this sort of salty insight.

We generally confine our maritime adventures to dry land. There is a lot more dry land where Rhinos live than there is ocean. Plus more greenery at lunchtime.

As you can imagine, it’s harder to find your sea legs when you have four of them.

Narrative Fabrications

6-22 FvFiction

All Rhinos like storytelling, in whatever format. It is interesting how Fictional Figures can hold our imaginations so thoroughly. We know these FFs as companions, pals, exemplars and foes. They engage some aspect of Us; We are kindred spirits.

It may be distillation of character that makes these FFs so user-friendly. The complexities are removed to focus on particular attributes or tonalities. Not so with our actual acquaintances, darn it.

We want our cake, but We show up with forks in hand. Uh-oh. Ambiguity!
