Invisible Friends

5-5 Twins

There is a Conservative School of Rhino Thought that proposes that each RTot  is born with an invisible identical twin Self. This idea explains why RTots never seem lonely; each has a playmate that knows that Tot every whichaway. Comforting and stimulating companionship.

The Liberal School of Rhino Thought proposes that each RTot is born with dozens of invisible twin Selves.

If We Rhinos better understood how numbers work, We would wonder if both schools might be right?

Enjoying our Selves

4-14 Selfhood

Each of Us Rhinos has a bunch of Alter Egos, each one eccentric, all living in a jumble, each deciding when to step up and make itself known. How many?, you might ask. Well, it’s a bunch more than 3, so that’s the non-counting critter’s count.

Some of these Alter Egos are universal, standard issue for every Rhino. Others are spontaneous expressions of selfhood, individual and unique. We prefer to think of the percolating chaos inside Us as a sign of vitality.

Integration of character is not a Rhino strong point. Seems like a lot of effort for something that’s about to shift anyway.

Fill ‘er Up

4-11Fill 'er Up

Despite the teacher’s dedication, the fact is that each youngster has a different capacity for Education. Those capacities shift with time and circumstances and temperament, but no two are alike.

When delivering Education, the wise teacher leaves a little room at the top, so ideas can happily slosh around. That way ideas mix with experience, each influencing the other. Which is good.

(The answer is 2.)

Conventional Wisdom

4-10 PastStrangle

The Past is always lurking around, being Helpful. 50 million years of accumulated RhinoWisdom must have something to recommend it, right? Certainly, but…

But the Past can also be stultifying, a strangulation of RhinoDynamics. Tradition should have its due, but that Excelsior Spirit is built into Us Rhinos.

When We feel the Tarantella, We get the tambourine, dammit!

Ruminations

4-10 Ambiguity
Rhinos have always been aware of the Butterfly Theory, at least in theory. One thing impacts everything else, whether it knows it or not. Or cares.

That is why Rhinos can make a Great Quandary out of almost anything besides eating. Once We let Incertitude out of the bag, where are We? We are pondering matters into a lather, and feeling queasy, that’s where.

The moral of all that is the upshot of that is the bottom line of that is the nitty gritty of that is the gist of that is…

Welcome to our world.

Being Quiet

4-8 GoldenRule

There are things that command attention wherever Rhinos go. We believe the special nature of things is enhanced mightily by keeping our mouths shut. There is a communication between the viewer and the viewed that requires neither words nor analysis.

The viewed object is. Identification limits the viewed thing, takes its existential power, its moment, away.

We like to leave things with their integrity in tact. While We are on the topic, Rhinos like to be left the same way ourselves.

Geo-Logics

4-7 GeoUhOh

So here We are, with a big old rock, ready to fall on Us. A Rhino could be nervous, but what are the odds that anything will happen today? Right, negligible. It’s been there a long time, and may stay this way for ages, literally.

The Earth has lots of astonishing events to offer, a few of them terminal, but it works on a schedule We can’t, and you can’t, grasp. Nature decides when it’s time to flip the switch.

Probably We will be somewhere else when it collapses. That’s our plan, anyway.
