In the Wild there is always a lot going on, much random information on what’s doing and why. Some of those updates are essential, but a lot of it is gossip.
The RhinoSystem is to look disinterested, passing on as little data as We can.
The same little bird that reports to Us, is the bird who chatters about Us.
Few young Rhinos are born brilliant. There is a great deal of information bombarding them from minute #1, and it’s easy to get muddled, connecting the dots… or trying to connect the dots.
What is for sure is that Wisdom is a state that follows Ignorance, given enough time and some focused brain-power.
Not every Rhino is equal to the task. That is just how it is.
We get lots of inquiries about our diminishing numbers. Rhinos are confronting rough times, but We have little power to stem the tide.
There are many species coping with thinning ranks. At some point, there are insufficient members to breed a healthy population, and then the candle goes out, whatever the species. Pfffft.
Some of these problems are Natural, though most of them are not. Rhinos do not snivel; We persevere, sharing good cheer as best We can.
In the morning of October 7, 1737, a cyclone triggered 40 foot waves which crashed down on the Ganges River delta, in the Bay of Bengal, India, wreaking havoc to the population, both human and critter, and property.
Knowing these historical events makes our occasional inconveniences due to Weather seem trifling, at least to Us Rhinos.
The Rhino Wayfarer appears to be going, or possibly arriving, or perhaps waiting.
Not only we observers, but the R. Wayfarer herself may not be entirely sure what’s going on.
Sort of Standard Operating Procedure, Rhino or not.
Yes, it is October, wherever you are. And where We Rhinos are too. We had considered giving you an October Update from Zambia, just to get you current, but gave it up.
Zambia is in central-south Africa, but in area it is as big as California, plus Michigan, Iowa, South Carolina and Rhode Island, more or less (Rhino Math is always dicey.) This Mathematical Info is meaningful, We assume.
The point is, Weather is capricious. This is Zambia’s hot , dry season, but that will shortly change. That’s just how Weather does things.
On September 27, 1290, there was an enormous Earthquake in the Yuan Empire of China. Whole villages entirely disappeared.
Nature may be relatively predictable on a daily basis, but there are occasional Events which cannot be foreseen or comprehended.
Rhinos, as well as Every Other Critter on the Earth must absorb these catastrophes at Nature’s hand. Sad but true.
Pandora is famous for having opened a box, against wiser counsel, and having released Evil upon the world. Of course, that is a myth, but it’s as good an explanation of Evil as any other.
Whatever its historical accuracy, it does provide a Rhino with an idea of the Hazards of Curiosity.
