RHINOCEROS

11-26 Ionesco

In 1959 Eugene Ionesco wrote a play called Rhinoceros. The play is somewhat confusing, especially if one is a Rhinoceros, which We are. We don’t pretend to understand it, but if it’s called “Rhinoceros”, it must be a good thing. With that topic, how could he go wrong?

So thanks, Mr. Ionesco (whose birthday is today, but back in 1909).

The Also-Rans

11-24 Winners

Races have an interesting feature: they are comprised almost entirely of losers. One critter wins, everybody else doesn’t win. Easy as that.  The same is true of teams. One winner and everyone else.

We are surprised by this fact every time We encounter it, however logical it is. If We did our best, We feel like winners.

And why not?

Shy & Retiring

11-14Humility

Rhinos are not often thought of as Humble, and there is a good reason for that. We 99.7% aren’t.

Still, We do a good imitation, a sort of chameleon routine of Modesty. Those who do not know Us well are fooled.

You can see why. Rhinos are a cunning bunch, no doubt about it.

No place like home

10-29 homesteadingToday’s Halloween solution is not to a State of Mind, but to a State itself. The pointer aims at Badlands National Park. Rhinos used to live there. There is still time to visit, if you like.

This area is just part of our old Rhino Stomping Grounds. The RFamily was a New World mega-influence Back When (which covers roughly 35 million years of development, they say. Rhinos certainly weren’t counting.)

You doubtless recall: Rhinos did much familial branching in North America. Then, 5 or 10 million years ago or so, the weather changed, and We folded our tents. We respond to the Call of the Wild. We are Nature’s playthings. And were then, too.

Rhino Finery: not only enchanting but educational. Amazing!

Exotica

10-28 CleoP

Today’s ensemble salutes Cleopatra, though We don’t actually remember her at all. Her daily doings simply did not overlap with Rhinodom. Doubtless a credit to her kin, dealing with the cards she was dealt. (Delta or DeNile humor to follow.)

Egypt was a Fashion Hub back when, and that’s what We are concentrating on. Lots of “hubba-hubba”.

The Crocodile is not real; they are uncooperative and they bite.
