Scratch and Sniff

Over the eons, Rhinos have tried to figure out some way to recognize and categorize the infinite variety of olfactory stimulants that bombard Us, 24/7.

So far, our efforts have been in vain. We start sniffing, and We are overcome with the fragrances cascading over our receptors. Why sort them out when We can just surf on the thrill of them?

Otherwise, Rhinos would have some alphabet of quirks to apply to sensation, distinctions that could never be catalogued. And for what or why?

No business like it

Eugene Ionesco’s play RHINOCEROS opened in 1959, and achieved instant acknowledgement for its powerful warning about mob thinking and the violence of popular movements. This theme is symbolized by people turning into Rhinoceroses (!) and thundering around mindlessly. It’s quite a play.

You will not be surprised that Rhinos, worldwide, were dismayed by this perception of Rhinodom. We are not a herding animal, and are highly individual, not given to political or social manias. Rhinos think for ourselves, right?

Well. At least it’s a good play. Maybe M. Ionesco thought the mention of our name would help sell tickets. If so, he was not wrong.

‘Wise Women’

With our Readers, Wise Women are those in a community who know about herbs and natural physical up and downs.

Female Rhinos know a lot too, but it’s every gal for herself, and tot. Rhinos do not specialize as our Readers do. We all, male and female, pay attention in our youth, because the knowledge will be required in time.

But as with many other callings, Rhinos like to imagine ourselves, ladeling out the frog-toe broth, with a dash of paprika. And cackling; a Rhino claim to fame.

On the Bounding Main

Back in 1620, 102 Pilgims set off in the Mayflower. They left England September 6 and sailed west for 66 days. The conditions weren’t great, but only one passenger died. Everybody else was just Really Sick.

They arrived on November 9, so as of today, they were 6 days away from dry land. They probably didn’t know that on November 3rd. Nothing about the trip was predictable. Even where they were going.

So if you like, get ready for the 9th. It was not Thanksgiving Day, but there was stilll much to be grateful for.

Spicey!

Today has been National Cinnamon Day although most Rhinos are uncertain about just which nation that is. Cinnamon is grown mostly in Asia, but there are four different species, allowing for plenty of debate on which one is best. We like them all, but for different reasons.

One place Cinnamon is grown is Sri Lanka, which was Ceylon. Two important crops there, Tea and Cinnamon.

Still, Tea is not an ingredient in most Sticky Buns. (Just sayin’.)
