Bon anniversaire, Monsieur

Today is Voltaire’s birthday, 1694. He was a caustic social critic, and particularly daring for his day in History. He was prolific in all sorts of forms, from books and plays to letters and pamphlets. He presented a range of ideas that We take for granted today.

It might be a good time to point out that historically, freedom of speech is a modern idea.

So We Rhinos wish Voltaire a Happy Birthday. It’s entirely possible that he is correcting matters wherever he is at present.

  1. I am strongly reminded of YIR’s quote before the election from George Washington about the importance of freedom of the press. In any case , go Voltaire.
