It’s hard to know where to start praising Jane Addams, the co-founder (with Ellen Gates Starr) of Hull House. Together they established social work in the United States, providing for their community. She was a reformer, speaker, philosopher, and activist. Ms. Addams was a staunch Pacifist.

In 1931 Ms. Addams became the first American woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for her tireless efforts, at home and abroad.
