Nobody seems to know who wrote that, but it lines up with Rhino Logic and Experience, so it’s unquestionably a Rhino source. We mean, that much is Obvious, right?

And you are quite right about sociolizing among rhinos. However, as with many human generalizations, this may only be because humans have paid little attention to it; it may be that before rhino numbers were so curtailed by hunting, things were more comradely.
