Today is and has been World Marbles Day, not the rock, but the pastime. It has been popular for a long time, and was played in England as the Spanish Armada hove to over the horizon (1588). If marbles helped defeat the Spanish, nobody says so. Why rub it in?
These small marbles of glass or porcelain are common enough. However, any marble player has favorites. Even Rhinos have marbles they prize over others, “The Lucky Marble.”
What is disappointing is that We Rhinos usually have no idea where exactly our marbles have been lost. Sad but true.
