Richard III is a History Play, theoretically detailing his getting the crown. The play presents Richard as cunningly diabolical and also bad. Next-to-nobody survives, mostly thanks to his schemings.
(His real birthday is today, but in 1452, FYI.)
Scene One takes place in Richard’s Winter, about which he is discontented. He tells Us so. Also, there is a shortage of horses at the end of the play.

Holinshed was not user-friendly for R3, but he was scrivening for the Tudors, and liked his head where it was, We suppose. The hazards of working on commission.
