One of a Kind

Every Rhino is made up of many many bits and pieces. The exciting part is watching one trait or another surface. Some come early, others phase in later on. Everything added up, it becomes a Rhino.

Nature seems to have come up with the Secret Rhino Recipe, leaving plenty of room for developments and particularities along the way. We get our good points and our not-so-good points. It all works itself out.

Natural Attractions

When a Rhino is young, its mother will help introduce organized dining as a concept. The young Rhino will follow the instructions for a year or two, and then connect to the scents that interest them most.

We Rhinos deal primarily with Scent as a guide to individual Satisfaction. Mostly Scent carries multiple details of what’s available, and where. The same idea is active in forming relationships and considering the weather. The Rhino Nose is our pride and joy; if it’s not foolproof, it’s close to it. Happily, no two Rhinos are exactly the same.

Rhinos are lucky in any number of ways. Maybe even more than Three…

When X comes to mind

As We Rhinos get older, We find that the mental ‘Save’ option loses some of its pizzazz. When pressed We can recollect, but it’s far from perfect. Please remember that Rhino minds are highly specialized, and We can only entertain so much data at any given time.

But then We will have a vivid recollection of thing A or B or C, which We were supposed to do; We do not panic per se, but We do go into action as formerly planned, unless something else comes to mind. Then We are right back where We started.

Life in the Wild is unpredictable.

Y’are whatcha eat, right?

This is one of the basic rules, We are what We eat. True, probably. What other ingredients are there?

But being curious critters, We Rhinos wonder just what We would be if We ate something else, not on the standard menu. Rocks, or butterflies, or whatever. We wonder.

Perhaps a good thing: We almost never try these Supposes out in practice. Our mothers assure Us that We won’t like the answer. Naturally We sneak small samples of improbable foodstuffs, and are pleased and surprised that our mothers know what they’re talking about.

Still, just so you Readers know; We do consider these questions…

Gone but not Forgot, somewhat

The Toltec Nation was founded in central Mexico, possibly derived from the Mayan peoples. There was a lot of difficulty settling down, down there. For the uninformed today, it is a challenge to get any consistent answers about the Toltecs, who made their mark between 950 and 1150 AD. Their capital was Tula for some of the time or perhaps something.

They built with stone, and carved a lot of it also. They were artistically inclined, but were also warlike. They left no written records, so everything that is known has been orally preserved, leading to plenty of confusion. 900 years worth.

There were no Rhinos hanging out in that region at that time, We happily report. Now you know as much as We Rhinos know.

R. Radish

Radishes hold a special place in Rhino hearts. Not only are they uber-tasty, but they embody many romantic notions of adventure and possibility. There are Rhino myths, Rhino dances, and Rhino songs and lullabies, all featuring the Radish.

Among young Rhinos, there is an ambition to track down and relate to that one special Radish, the one that will make every day afterward just a wee bit better. This pursuit is called the Radish Quest. Oddly enough, the Quest is more theoretical than it is successful. Still many a Rhino of whatever age keeps an eye peeled for the elusive Radish. We are tenacious critters, We Rhinos, and idealistic.

The Radish Quest seldom turns into a lifelong Mania, but it does happen.
