Toasty Times

Rhinos don’t have sweat glands, which is just too bad for Us. However, We are accomplished at panting and gasping. The point of all those activities is to regulate body heat, especially with sweltering weather.

Many Rhino stomping grounds offer little shade, so we get mud or dust onto our skin to deflect the sun’s rays. Or We go into whatever water is around. That takes practice. Also, it requires no crocodiles.

Life in the Wild demands planning and lot of luck.

Circuitry

Rhinos are organized internally, but not much of the system is conscious. We don’t tell one part of Us to behave and then expect compliance. That is because We are wired by Instinct, a Natural system of emotions, priorities and goals.

Rhinos have a reputation as unpredictable, but nobody knows that better than We do. Whoever is in charge inside flips a switch, and We are full-steam-ahead, with little room for negotiation.

Consistency doesn’t stand a chance.

Playmates in the Wild

Probably the world’s most famous Arachnophobe is Little Miss Muffet. Confronted with peril, she takes the obvious course of action and beats a retreat.

Realistically, Ms. Muffet is not endangered, but how is she to be sure? Right; she isn’t. Why wait on events to find out? There are many situations in the Wild where Instinct trumps Reason, and a good thing too.

And don’t forget, Ms. Muffet abandons her breakfast. A sure sign of hysteria.

Unique, take it or leave it

Each of Us Rhinos is entirely a one-of-a-kind product. There are other Rhinos, other Rhino families, other Rhino family members, some born this year, some born that, etc., etc., etc. But what is for sure is that even with a twin sister, you are not the same as she is. Period.

So We assume that each and every Rhino is a Gift, a Creation for the improvement of things, from then to now to whenever. How We will play our part, We don’t know. That does not nullify what We contribute.

The same is true of every YIR Reader and also every pine cone.

The Big Picture

All critters need a place to live, and Nature has places in mind for each of Us. They are called Biomes, special locales determined by heat, cold, wetness, dryness and seasonal considerations. No two places are really the same, obviously. Nor are these lacations constant; Nature likes to mix things up.

Rhinos are alert to shifts in any of these Biome qualities, and try to keep ahead of the pack when shifting home turf.

So far, so good.

Inhalation 101

As you probably know, most Rhinos produce Pheromones, chemical essences that may not charm every savage beast, but which drive Rhinos Mad with Desire. Sounds like fun, right? Right. Pheronomes really flip our switches.

You may be surprised to learn that not only do Rhinos have receptors in our mouths and noses, but also in our ears. And We can inspire Responses as well, the kind of Responses that put the Wild back in the Wild.
