We have been feeling guilty over ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ this year. The count starts on Christmas Day. But We have not given them much attention.
So here is Day 12, this very day. We hope the other days will excuse Us; seems like somewhere there are eight maids-a-milking, feeling peevish. And who could blame them?
The Staff is off for adventure in the Big Town. Our plans are modest, but We are of good cheer. We will see a lot of art and some dear friends, and that is time well spent, say We.
We should be back in force on Monday, so take your vitamins and do your exercises so you are in top form for that momentous moment. If you please.
Events are not really related to the calendar. Oh yes, X happened on DayY, but the how-it-could-happen is quirky and iffy and tough to track. So hard, in fact, that it’s impossible.
Rhinos look back on tricky situations and wish things had gone otherwise. But those situations are now mostly resolved: good, bad, or indifferent. So the Rhino system is to package up the yesterdays when ever possible, and consciously ignore them. We don’t forget them, but We don’t pick over the bones and bathe ouselves in regrets.
Sweepimg genralizations are always soothing, unless you examine them. Every Critter is doing the best it can, with the cards on the table and the hand they’re sorting. Heaven help Us, Every One.
Rhinos do a lot of multi-tasking. While We chew, We ponder many of Life’s mysteries. Shown is part of the Rhino Creed, which We find supportive and insightful.
If We have a problem, it is that We find it hard to imagine what Nature has not already improved and developed. Often, Rhinos are forced to acknowledge our many opportunities to be excellent.
All Critters have a package, the part everybody else can stare at. But the tricky part is what’s on the Inside of that package. How many versions of Me are there? How am I supposed to sort out those inputs and experiences. Where does half of this influence come from?
The surprising part is that for Rhinos, with our statuesque presence, that Gameplan comes from disparate sources. Much of the time, things are calm in there. Sometimes things heat up in wildly unpredictable ways. We find we care more than we thought, or less. So many versions of ourselves, partially if dimly understood.
Sometimes Rhinos feel that We don’t know who We are at all, either as individuals or as a species. It’s a lot to juggle.
If Alice’s Adventures started today, by the time she returns it would probably be, not only a different time, but a different year. Talk about Wonderland!
That is how the calendar works; We just got used to 2022, and they snatch it away. Befuddling and Incalculable.
Confusion Reigns Supreme, at least for Rhinos it does.
